Well, it’s summer gloom here in Los Angeles, that balmy morning greyness that heralds the true beginning of summer. The sweat-filled hot days are right around the corner, but for now we’re reveling in the pre-heat mildness.  This week’s show matches the contemplative mood and John Graham aka “Quivver” joins us today to talk about his heady Bedrock chart-topper “Yeah “Yeah.”

1. Ripperton – Leonor’s Lanugo (Radio Slave remix part 1) [Green]

Here we have a coming-together of some of the biggest names in techno. Switzerland’s Ripperton is appearing here on Joris Voorn’s Green label, and remix master Matt Edwards, who has truly been one of the top 5 remixers of the past decade as Radio Slave does the remix. If wanted to hear why minimal tech was such a big thing, this track illustrates why. Impeccable taste and a perfect way to start off our show.

2. The Steals feat. Jaynn Hana- Golden (Jimmy Van M & Luis Junior remix) [Proton Music]

It’s an odd pairing, but the UK folk electronic group The Steals pair up here with Bedrock staples Jimmy van M and Luis Junior for yet another example of the emerging vocal in techno-centric music that has been gaining traction this year. It’s out on the always busy Proton Music label, Jayn Hanna vocals remain a solid centerpiece, and the Bedrock Boys do it justice.

3. Pryda – The End [Pryda]

Prydz is back under his Pryda moniker for the third time this year already, this time with a much more subdued number that is nonetheless a standout track that’s racing to the top of the charts. It’s subtle and darkly driving, marked of course with his signature killer sweeps up to crescendo. It’ll be played in the first half of sets all summer.

4. Quivver – Yeah Yeah [Bedrock]

We featured the b-side to this massive EP a couple weeks ago, and with John coming on for the interview, we thought it was time to highlight the title track. Perhaps Quivver’s biggest release in a couple years, the hook behind the bassline on this track makes it no surprise it’s getting the notice it has. Top notch.

5. Moonbeam – Run For Me [Traum]

Moonbeam burst onto the scene three years ago on Traum, and they’re back with their frequent hosts for a track that reminds me of the sophisticatedly melodic sound that put them on the map in the first place. They’ve spent alot of time moving from techno to trance and everything in between, but they’ve struck upon something just right on this melancholy number. A return to form on the label they tend to show their best on.

6. Da Fresh – Right on Time [Definitive Recordings]

The Frenchman Arnaud Caschera is behind the production act Da Fresh. A debut here on the show, he’s showing off a wicked talent for aggressive basslines and sparsely repetitive melodies. Plenty to wave your hands at here. It’s out on the colossal Definitive Records that counts John Aquaviva and Richie Hawtin as its founding members.

7. Leventina – Naked (Ibiza Sunset Dub mix) [Enormous Tunes]

Christian Hirt, the man behind Unreleased Digital, one of the biggest prog labels on the planet, may have more aliases than James Bond. This time the Helvetic Nerds crew is pushing their Leventina brand on the annual Mykonos summer clubbing compilation which is out Enormous Tunes. Its massive bassline overshadows a sleazy guitar riff that is used just sparsely enough to avoid the 1980’s.

8. Tune Brothers – Make Your Body Pop (TV Rock & Luke Chable Dub mix) [Recovery House]

Luke Chable, golden boy of the mid-2000’s has some catching up to do, but he’s found a place back on the charts this past year with fellow Australian remix duo TV Rock. This one has already received  some due attention, but it’s being featured on Recovery House’s inaugural “Planet House” compilation, and a spotlight on the Dub is well deserved. Who needs to mess with a vocal when you can focus on beats like these?

9. Ben Coda – Blackout (ReZone remix) [Baroque Records]

Upstart producer Ben Coda has been toothing and nailing for his piece of the action for the past year plus, and in recent months has really turned up the volume. He’s found a bit of magic here with ReZone on the remix – it’s the type of heavy broken-up progressive that was fashion forward a couple years ago. Although it may no longer be edgy, nor is homage enough to be retro, it has enough elements of both to really be something interesting. And when it comes down to it, the beats are slamming – watch out for a killer breakdown in the middle.

10. Ce Ce Peniston – Finally (Vandalism remix)

You *really* thought we were going to get through an entire show without blowing the roof off? Well fuck that. This bootleg *exudes* party animal, and it is guaranteed to get booties on the dancefloor. It’s from the Australian duo Vandalism, it was never released, but it made the circuits two years ago and has traveled all the way back around to be a centerpiece of the Lady Gaga world tour of all places. It was certainly ahead of it’s time – it would fit into the electro top 10 today in a second. It’s the last track, go ahead and lose your shit, the track is sick.
