Turn the page to a new month and September is upon us! Summer’s almost over! Never seems quite long enough, does it? Especially with so much music and so little time. We’ve got your fix this week, especially with our very special guest Darin Epsilon, the man behind the Perspectives radio show and forthcoming label. He’s on talking about a pair of new singles.

1. John Digweed & Nick Muir – Satellite (Christian Smith remix)

Christian Smith is on fire this year – first the massive remake of a Carl Craig classic, now the quick follow up to the massive new Bedrock duo single that we just featured a couple shows ago. His take on “Satellite” is more focused, a little less sci-fi, and he really works out the warmth in the bassline to give it a signature Christian Smith feel. It’s a dream team release and holds up exactly as expected.

2. DJ Thee-o & Erphun – Collusion [Bedrock]

It’s a pair of Southern California natives, a sentence used all too few and far between, but they’ve scored big here. Erphun especially has caught our attention, ever since last year’s “Bad Seed” which was on the short list for our top 10 of ’09. He’s back at his naughty best with this driving dirty little number. It’s another fat cat off Diggers’ “Structures” mixed compilation…one that has had solid staying power.

3. Joseph Capriati – Gashouder [Drumcode]

Drumcode continues to dominate the techno world this summer with an extra long EP from Italian techno-smith Joseph Capriati, a name I must admit I haven’t followed before now. The first thing to make my ears stand up on this one was the undeniably old school 8-bit sounding clap pounding over and over throughout the whole track. What made me fall in love was the spacey pad melody line and the subtly distorted bassline. Huge track. Possibly my favorite today, and that’s saying alot.

4. Joris Voorn – MPX309 [Green]

It’s one of the tracks that put Joris Voorn on the map almost 5 years ago. Raw drums and basslines, compressed and maximized into massiveness. It’s getting a nod here from Deetron on his “Green Selection” compilation EP, a selection of some of the label’s biggest tracks over the past several years…which amounts to some pretty impressive cuts. This one being choice. Classic stuff from a producer who’s really now come into his own. This is techno to the MAX!

5. Monika Kruse – Wavedancer (Pig & Dan remix) [Ministry of Sound]

So we’ve been tantilized by this one for several months now and it’s *finally* out. It’s off the compilation from the ill-fated 2010 Loveparade, but this song is a pure crowd pleaser and conjures only images of sweaty bliss. Pig & Dan do a bassline on this that is absolutely out of this world. They also have the tact to hedge that and the creepily mechanical vocal with some wonderfully light melody and drum work up on top. Huge huge big room techno.

6. Chris Fortier – Twinkle Me (Darin Epsilon vocal remix) [Silence Through Music]

Upstart label Silence Through Music has been putting together quite the list of alumni in just the short few months they’ve been in operation, and this one is another feather in their cap. Chris Fortier really has evolved as a producer in the past couple decades, and Darin does a brilliant job expanding on his original minimalism. Lovely vibe and execution.

7. Dezarate & Michel Manzano  – Soul is in the Air (Darin Epsilon remix) [Perfecto]

With the original, Perfecto really is up to their old tricks – pure vocal progressive trance. Darin’s allusions to Depeche Mode are right on, and he does a wonderful job scaling back the epic-ness while maintaining its exuberance. Particularly love the percussion on this one, and one of Darin’s best works to date.

8. Pig & Dan – Memories [Shabulized]

I love any opportunity to bring back an older but still imminently relevant track, and Shabulized provide the perfect opportunity to do so with the inclusion of this stand-out on their 13th production compilation. “Memories” is originally from Imperanza Recordings and showcases these Spaniards’ particular talent for melody, something we don’t hear from them very often. It’s certainly a treat, and a track with staying power.

9. Mat Zo – Near the End [Anjunabeats]

Mat Zo has been one of the biggest up and coming Trance producers for the past three years, and it’s crystal-clear why in a nutshell on the track closing our show today: his melody-writing is unparalleled. This track is quite simply breath-taking. It also fits decidedly on the more progressive line of things which is a nice change of pace for one of the more exuberant and extravagant producers out there. Big fans here.
