Another week, more kick ass music. Have you all to myself for the second week in a row, probably will stick with that ’till after the new year to keep things simple. It’s time to start thinking about the top 10 of 2010, and we’ll be taking your votes this year for the “listeners’ choice” award, both for your favorite show and track. Details about that to be announced this week. Very eclectic show this week, trying to mix it up and keep it interesting.

Music from Milton Channels, Apparat, Booka Shade, Max Cooper, Popof, and much more!
.
Kicking off the show today is one of our favorites. Mr. Ring, aka “Apparat”, makes a guest appearance at the top of the “Modeselektion” compilation with this track “King of Clubs”. The compilation was put together by Modeselektor on their own young Monkeytown imprint, a pair that toppped charts along with Apparat himself last year as the group Moderat. Again, percussion is a standout for me on this cut, incredibly interesting stuff, and perfectly in the mood for today’s offbeat theme.

This Frenchman has decidedly shaken off his more epic ways of the past and opted for a more vibey angle. That certainly hasn’t stopped him from remixing some of the biggest acts in the underground and above ground scenes. Booka Shade falls into that category for sure, one of the select heroes of the new techno movement. It’s a sparse landscape that Popof is painting but the color that does peak through is a tease in the best way.
.
The second of Popof’s tracks we’re featuring today really goes hand in glove with that last one. It’s an original this time, which is nice to see from an artist who really is known for his remixes. It’s a shame, because he can write from the ground up with the rest of them. It’s out on the Absolut Freak label, spelled like the vodka, but I suppose they could claim swedish roots for their brand. In any event, it’s a track that has winter chill in its bones.
.
It’s not that we’re actively trying to feature female producers like Anja Schneider, in fact it seems insulting to do so, it’s simply that they’re steadily rising in the ranks by pure virtue of their talent, especially in the techno world which is arguably the cutting edge at the moment. The bluesy almost moby-esque vocal backing this one is an instant standout, as is the rest of the production.
.
Tried to get this chap on the show to talk today, but his schedule wouldn’t allow, so we’re taking the moment here to get you all to lobby with us and get him back on. You heard it here Max, the people have spoken :). In true delicate Cooper style, this track so sweet it’s almost innocent. It’s out on Wide Angle Recordings, which hails from Canada and home of the long-standing “cityscape” compilation series.
.
This one probably wins most fun names to say today, always loved Romboy’s name and you can’t say Herzblut without a smile. In our journey through the trippy, off-beat, and wierd today, this one is likely the most dancefloor friendly with it’s straight four-four and killer bassline. It’s something that the German Romboy does extremely well, and it’s high time he’s made an appearance on the show.
.
This rising Colombian star was on the show just a couple weeks ago with fellow Colombian Andrea Saenz. He’s a bit of a prodigy at the tender age of 21, but he’s definitely made a name for himself as a go-to for the Spinnin family of labels. This remix is on the Mexican Elite Records imprint as part of their “Elite Remixers” series. The entire release is worth checking out, but this one is our favorite.
.
Not too familiar with the Italian native DJ Simi, but Egbert we are. The dutch house techno-smith has been a staple for the immense Cocoon imprint, and his fresh blend of house-type rhythms and techno edginess has always been worth the listen. Joris Voorn would be an easy comparison in many ways. This track is out on Yoshitoshi proving they still have some bombs up their sleeve.
.
So this particular remix from Max has been floating around out there for the better half of 2010 – it’s getting the full release treatment finally on FLASH. The original was a single of f their studio album from earlier this year “One Life Stand.” Whether or not Max’s version started the snowball to a full remix release or no, we’re thankful it’s seeing the light of day. Easily one of the best tracks we’ve heard from Max and indeed from anyone in 2010. Breathtaking stuff here. We’re living in a renaissance right now of techno that’s incredibly inventive and beautiful – this is breathing proof. Play this one very very loud.
.
This is somewhat of a breakout for the Polish producer Filip Abramczyk, the man behind the Pysh moniker. He’s on the EP with pretty major names, Popof obviously one of them from earlier in the show. His remix really does exactly what we were hoping – taking the vocal which is probably the most interesting aspect of the original, and really working the track around that. Very well done, and perfect track to end the day on, and enough for us to watch for more from this guy.
