The Montreal duo scored their second big hit of 2010, this time on Plastik Park, the roudy prog label that gave rise to Bansi & Riktam and was founded by D-Nox, the remixer behind the Radio Gods afore mentioned “333” chart topper. Leif Hatfield’s remix is a standout for us on the particular package – that bassline is as nasty as it gets, something of a specialty for the German producer. One of our favorite openers of the year.

One of our favorite familiar faces and techno chart dominator for 2010, Umek really benefits here from a downright thunderous remix from the Italian techno-smith Dyno. It’s a star track from his release on the Hell Yeah guest artist series which he’s treated like an artist album with some existing remixes, such as this one, and some brand new originals which we’ll actually hear shortly.

As promised, more off the “Dyno? Hell Yeah” compilation – this time an original. Moving into crunchier techno with this one, the real standout element for us is the sci-fi inspired melody line. Really impressed with this album as a whole, definitely something we recommend y’all check out.

Yup, the mau5 is back with a full artist album, and it’s actually stuffed with a bunch of cuts that we haven’t heard before with some pretty amazing variety of sound…not that it always works to have an artist album that’s so widely spread, but there are some gems tucked in here and there. We’re featuring this one because it’s an updated stab in the “faxing berlin” style that really put him on the map in the first place.

Rick Pier O’Neil, a staple in the land of friskyRadio and the progressive charts of yesteryear – he’s never stopped chugging away with the signature spacy RPO vocal clips, and it’s paying off in this case, especially with the help of fresh-produce favorite Spartaque who continues to hammer away at those huge basslines. It’s a nice synthesis of styles.

Not really much more we can say about Da Fresh that we already haven’t said already this year. Big year for the French producer that’s seen some huge hits and an impressive array of well-executed styles. This melodic number is one that hit shelves back in March and has the honor of being included on Armada’s “Best Progressive” compilation for the past year. Well deserved.

2010 may go down as a relatively quieter year for Pryda, really only in the sense that Prydz and Cirez D. have had huge years, but he’s certainly ending it on an up-note. A straight shot to the top 10 for this one, as is expected, and well earned. Eric Prydz wears many hats and wears them all well. This much more melodic and progressive moniker gives us an impossibly loud and epic slice of melody and kick…we’ll let the track do the talking and you’ll hear what we mean.

Those of you paying too close attention will recognize the fundamentals in the next one as being on the show before – this time we’re playing Andrew Bayer’s remix which is effortlessly done. Both this and the original are getting featured on Anjunabeats annual “Yearbook” compilation, and it’s really up there as one of this year’s top melodic compositions for us. Just simply beautiful every time we play it.

You know, we rarely feature electro on this show, which really is a shame because one you slash through all the party-whistle and pop-mash-up bullshit, there really is some exciting and flooring material to be found. Many would argue that Deadmau5 may not be the edgiest or most innovative on the scene, but none of that really matters when you have a track that kicks as much ass as this one does. Truly musical in a completely unapologetically electro way, it’s a no brainer to feature off his “4×4=12” album, which is something by the way, that we heartily recommend. The mau5 still has it folks.

We end the year with one of the best tracks off one of the best albums of the year, hands down. Crazy about the studio-made “White Light” follow-up to Groove Armada’s live-recorded “Black Light” album…also one of our favorite mixes on this show going into this one, so y’all are going to have to listen to the show to hear that! 🙂
