1. Daft Punk – Derezzed (Glitch Mob remix) [Disney] 
The first of *several* tracks that we’ll be featuring from the Tron: Reconfigured remix album today. Simply a massive massive release, which I’m surprised to say since I wasn’t nearly as much a fan as many were of the boys’ original score. This remix album proves that it was more hook laden than initially met the ears and the selection of talent is out of control good. First up is the imitable Glitch Mob, often copied but never duplicated. Fucking massive slow tempo remix.

2. Daft Punk – The Grid (The Crystal Method remix) [Disney]
Another cut, obviously, from the Tron: Reconfigured remix album. It’s been a while since the LA-based duo The Crystal Method were staples in the club scene, and they haven’t exactly reinvented their breakbeat sound here. But what do have is something that’s thick, chic, and ends with a killer killer bass-turned melody. Why reinvent the wheel when it still rolls so well…how’s that for a metaphor? 🙂

Taken from Guy’s brand-new artist album “1000 Words”, this spacey/breaky track stood just an inch taller than the rest of the incredibly well-done 20 plus tracks to fit into the show today. Really, it’s an impressive feat that the Isreali superstar has put together over his two-disk affair. We highly recommend, and we think this track speaks for itself as to why one should believe us.

4. Michael de Kooker – My Little Music Box [Pilot 6 Recordings]
Now did you really think that we were going to get through a show without featuring a track with the fattiest of fatty basslines? Impossible! Not on this show 🙂 Michael de Kooker hails from Holland, and while he’s certainly not a fresh-faced newbie, he’s making big new waves away from his M.W.T. and Mr. Monsieur monikers with his first major release in the Armada family of labels. Love the creepy music box break in the middle, but mostly it’s all about that cavernous bassline.

5. Monaque – ID (Luis Junior remix) [microCastle]
A legit top 10 hit from our friends over at microCastle, it’s well deserved. Digger’s-fave Luis Junior is in tip top form with a uber-chic driving slice of progressive techno. In love with pretty much every aspect of this one, from Monaque’s hooks to Luis’ impossibly crisp percussions and basslines. One of the best of the year so far and certainly one of the best ever on this young imprint.

6. Guy Gerber – Timing (Kollektiv Turmstrasse remix) [Cocoon Recordings]
Truly one of Cocoon and Guy Gerber’s biggest hits of the past several years, it was a no-brainer to include on the imprint’s 11-year remix compilation. The remixers consist of the German duo Christian Hilscher and Nico Plagemann, mostly known for their stripped down ethereal work on several of the major Deutsch labels. In this case, they’ve certainly done some stripping down, but I’m particularly in love with the subtle, downright progressive drive they’ve decided to showcase from an original that was very melodic. Wonderful work.

7. Adrian Hour & Joe Fisher – Corrosion [Remedy Records]
The pair are back on the show with another killer hybrid between techno toughness and progressive melody. The latter is used rather sparsely in this track, and wonderfully so. It harkens back to the experimentation done by the Border Community lot or even Habersham’s later fashionings. Uber cool, crunchy crisp, and technically spot-on, a really polished effort from a pair that are maturing before our very eyes.

8. Depeche Mode – Never let me down again (Eric Prydz remix) [Rhino records]
Wouldn’t be a brand new year without something from our favorite genre-hopping Englishman Mr. Prydz, would it. It’s a no-brainer combination on this one as he’s re-doing the 80’s group Depeche Mode, who have shown a flair in the past for reinvention. It’s some old school material in this case, which Prydz puts an interesting take on with some live-sounding percussion choices paired with a deliciously stabby bassline-for-a-melody. Dance royalty, and a instant top 10 release with all the retro sounds dominating the sales these days.

9. Daft Punk – Derezzed (Avicii remix) [Disney]
It’s a play today of firsts – never ever thought we’d be playing anything off the *Disney* label for starters, let alone from the super commercialized branch of progressive house Avicii. But in this case the two can’t even do wrong in our eyes. Proof of the incredible diversity and masterful A&Ring on the “Tron Reconfigured” album is right at your feet people, couldn’t be more different than Glitch Mob’s take — a cheesy slice of gay clubland, and it’s bursting with fun and energy…or in a word…fabulousssss. This hoity toity self-ascribed house hipster would dance his ass off to this shit.

10. Daft Punk – Fall (M83 vs. Big Black Delta remix) [Disney]
Getting down to the REAL bombs today, this track is easily easily on our top 10 this year. Hands down the best cut off the Tron: Reconfigured album which we’ve both caned and not even scratched the surface of today. Absolutely in love love with the 80’s retro-inspired electronic dance/rock being put out right now by the likes of Com Truise, M83 who has really evolved in the past several years, etc. Music for hipsters to sway to and fiends like you and me to put on blast (in the literal sense). Can’t play this one loud enough…I recommend upping the volume.

11. Ellie Goulding – Lights (Bassnectar remix) [whitelabel]
Very very rare that we play whitelabels (or promo tracks) on this show, but this one deserves the exception. Easily the best pop dubstep mash of the year, and it’s no surprise that it would come from Bassnectar, the San Francisco native who has made a habit of NOT just turning out the screamcore frantic fare that so many of his contemporaries are so intent on. It makes us here a believer beyond the shadow of a doubt that there is, and has been some very real songwriting in the genre…and if Skrillex recent virutal takeover of the dance sales charts is any indication of things to come, dubstep may well be entering its prime. We say bring it!
