I’ve officially found the work groove again. Did all my editing work today, plus some extra, and got my writing done…all before 11 at night, which is what the schedule was.
I am pretty pooped. That’s the downside, I suppose 😛
A’s won today handily over the Nationals. I’ve figured out how to work with the game on the radio, something that I had a hard time with last year. It’s nice, because I actually look forward to work days because I know for sure that I’ll be sitting in front of my computer working while the game is on.
I fell in love with baseball through the radio. I know that’s kind of weird, given that baseball games have been on TV with regularity for, like, 50 years – and maybe they were on TV when I was a kid, but I certainly wasn’t allowed to be watching TV at that time of night. But I *was* able to crawl into bed next to my little radio with the volume turned almost all the way down, and the antenna propped at juuuust the right angle and listen to the A’s games in KINS 980.
AM frequencies, for some reason relating to physics, travel better at night apparently. That sounds like a good thing, but it wasn’t. If the games went too late, like extra innings or something like that, other stations from far away would start to cut into the signal, garbling it or overlapping the play-by-play completely, and I’d have to fiddle ever so slightly with the tuner or the antenna to try and get the game back.
I loved it. My poster on the wall next to my bed with Ricky, McGwire, Canseco, and the entire season schedule so I know who they were playing and when. And, they were on every day, without fail. It was ’92, and they were really, really good that year. Won the AL West over the Twins, who were the reigning World Series Champions, if I remember correctly.
All of that stuff seemed so much more grandiose when I was a kid. Winning a World Series. Now that I’m older, I realize that someone wins the series every year. But, back then, it was something colossal, like the stuff of legends.
Anyway…not sure why that was on my mind 😛 The Coops is looking at me like “dude, where’s my treat?” We brushed his teeth tonight and we have to wait 30 minutes for the toothpaste to work its magic. So, sorry dude, you have to wait a bit longer.
I’m signing off. Hope you all had a good week, and I will see y’all tomorrow. Work day number 3, and I’ve got my queue all set up for success. Huzzah!
