Today did me some good. I got some sleep in, and tried to relax as much as possible. I’m definitely aware now that if the stress level reaches a certain point, my body reacts by getting “sick.” I put quotations since the common factor in the feeling sick seems to be mental, but the symptoms are very real. I’m not making them up. I actually had a mild fever at one point today.
But, I slept it off. Or, at least *hopefully* I did. I feel fairly normal at the moment, and I’m very, very excited to be going down to San Diego tomorrow for Comicon. For the first time. It’s true, I’ve never been before.
Shouldn’t be that surprising since comics were never really my geeky passion. But, Comicon has obviously been so SO much more than comics for a very long time, now, so I guess my previous point doesn’t really hold that much water. I should have gone before now, but I didn’t. And it’s reached the point down there, or so I hear, that it’s so crazy bananas it’s getting to the point where it’s all more of a hassle than it’s really worth. BUT…the Ho scored us free passes. How can you pass those up? AND…we’re excited to go together, just the two of us. It’s gonna be fun.
Liz and I got some wedding stuff done today, worked on some auditions, and I really tried to rest. And, not just by sleeping, but by trying to really just slow things down mentally, relax my muscles…I hope it did some good. I feel better.
It did mean I took a hit work-wise, which deep down infuriates, me…BUT…I can make it up. And I will. You’ve heard me say that a million times on this blog, and I’ve done it every time. I think I have to come to peace with the fact that I’m going to be in various states of “being behind” up till and after the wedding. It’s just inevitable. There’s so much stuff going on.
I got to FaceTime with my mom today, which was awesome. I’m so glad she has an iPad now and we can do that. Seriously. It’s really cool to be able to talk to your family and SEE them while you do it. It’s one of the coolest new things out there right now, technology-wise. She had some questions about the BBQ before the wedding, so we went over that stuff. She also wanted to talk about coming down for a shopping trip in August, which looks like will happen. I can use that weekend myself, actually — there are some wardrobe things that I wanted to do as well.
Anyway, I’m working hard and saving. It’s uncomfortable to think about spending that money, to be honest. I just worry a lot about coming out on the other side of this wedding and being wiped out of my savings…even though this is really WHY I’ve been working as much as I have to save. For the wedding. So, yeah. It’ll all be fine. I need to make a list, actually, of things that I’d thought of to purchase, and then weigh out which ones are actually necessary, and how much they’ll set me back money-wise. I might do that tonight, actually, once I’m finished with the journaling.
Let’s see, the A’s won today in impressive fashion. Brandon Moss hit his third grand slam of the year. Yes, THIRD…of THIS year. It was against the Astros, which is a team we honestly *should* be pummeling, but it’s nevertheless satisfying to see it play out that way. The Angels also FINALLY lost on a day when we won, and we gained a game on them. As good as we have been, the Angels have been even better in the month of July. Until the past few days. See, when we were playing, like, 8 consecutive series against first-place teams, THEY were playing all the shitty teams. But now, the tables have turned. We’re playing the shitty teams and they’re playing all the first-place teams. And so far, they’re struggling, whereas the A’s were still (mostly) dominant. I hoping that when I sit down to write this thing at the end of next week, the A’s will have a 5 or 6-game lead in the west.
Seriously…this season is a special season for the green and gold. For reals. This is the best team we’ve put on the field in a LOOOONNNGGGG time. I’m going out on a limb and saying it’s the best team since the 2001 team. And, even then, this season *could* be more special than that because 1) we’re not losing Jason Giambi next year, and 2) we’re not being overshadowed by the ridiculous 2001 Mariners who won 117 games or something like that. WE are the best team in baseball this year. We have been all year. Knock on wood, I don’t see that changing.
So yeah, if you’re even a casual Bay Area sports fan, THIS is the year to watch the A’s do what they do. Teams like this don’t come around very often. They’re really something special.
I’ll end it on that. I just had a very frustrating experience with an app to by a Comicon metro pass that *literally* required a more complicated password than my freaking bank does, and then failed to actually purchase the pass I wanted and proceeded to (most likely) piss off my bank and now my card is locked out with a “error processing payment” message. Good times. Hopefully it works better tomorrow morning…
