I’ve got a rhyhtm going, you guys. It feels nice. I felt like working on the Trek short story tonight, and so I did. Three full pages, and pages I’m actually going to keep this time. More action. Clearer thoughts. I also dropped Barclay into the mix, which I’m totally in love with. Bring him back at the conclusion of the story.
Liz remarked tonight that I really like writing about “family,” and it’s true. I do. It’s a subject that makes sense to me, and we’re always told to write what we know, right? Right. Certain things have happened in my life that have really made me value those who are close to me, and it’s that group of people, actually related and otherwise, that I consider to be family.
Writing prose feels so natural to these old fingers, at least in comparison to writing for the screen. I sat down and wrote my three pages for the short tonight like it was nothing. I like the rhyhtm of prose, the cadence, and the word play. Screenplay format DEFINITELY has rhythm, but you don’t get as much of the word play, the descriptiveness. Prose is on-the-nose so much more than screenplay…at least, that’s how it feels to me. I don’t claim to be a master of either. Not even close.
Editing work went very well today. I finished aaalllmmmossttt on time. I was a half hour late. But, still enough to enjoy a little sip of the bourbon and play some Skyrim before sitting down to write this thing. I consider that a major win. Last week, I don’t think I was able to do that all week. Skyrim has kind of turned into my little reward for myself if I finish my editing and my writing on a work day. I hardly ever play it on one of my days off…in fact, I don’t think I’ve ever done that 😛 Maybe once.
Skyrim is so freaking fun. Seriously. For me it’s the world. It’s large enough to want to explore, hard enough that I have to do things twice or three times on occasion, but never hard enough to totally discourage me. I’m very casual at the gaming, you understand, so it’s a testament to the world they built and the ease of gameplay that I look forward to sitting down every now and then to give it a whack.
I also caught up on Last Man on Earth tonight, and holy bejesus do I love that show. It might be my favorite thing to watch on TV right now. I fell in love last season, and this season hasn’t be a letdown whatsoever. If anything, it’s even funnier than it was last year. Will Forte and Kristen Schall; they’re titans. TITANS I tell you. Watch it if you aren’t already. You won’t be disappointed.
Feeling good, you guys. Feeling good. It’s been a coule weeks now of success on all fronts, editing and writing. Very proud of my progress. I think I’m going to end this year on an up, which is very gratifying to be able to say.
That’s all for tonight. Going to take some Benadryl because the allergies are mildly irritating, read for probably 15 minutes, and then pass out 😛 Waking up a bit earlier tomorrow so I can start work earlier and make it out to the writers’ meeting at Nikolai’s. Wish me luck with that 😛
