Tonight’s blog should be all about da techno and acid house…808…get it? If you don’t, don’t worry about it 😉
But today was all about Coco. We took her in to get her teeth cleaned, then had some breakfast downtown and got the Ho this play that literally the only fucking copy in all of Los Angeles was at the main LA library. So we did that, took a quick nap when we got home, and then went to pick her up at the vet.
So…our vet is all the way down in Culver City. That’s an hour each way. Not cheap. When we got home, Liz took off to go hang out with a friend for a bit, and I settled down to eat something, walk the pups, and then bang out the rest of my short story…
Coco started whimpering as I was eating dinner, and it got rapidly worse to where she was making pained noises every time she took a breath. Not normal. Called the vet, they said take her back in, and so we did, wondering if she was going to be okay.
She is! We got her there, doc looked her over very quickly, and sent her home with some pain meds. Pain meds are working, she’s pain free right now. BUT…I did discover why she was in so much pain, and it’s a little (a lot) angering: we had them clip her nails while she was there. They were long, I saw the option, it was a free service…well, they clipped one of her nails so far back, it’s bleeding a little bit, and they cut open some of the blood vessels and nerve endings. What the fuck, right? The bases of their nails, or claws, whatever you want to cell it, are excactly like our fingers. Super sensitive. Someone basically cut off the tips of her fingers. No wonder she was in so much pain.
So, yeah…very disappointed, and I’ll be calling them in the morning to discuss the matter with them. Basically, I just want to make sure she’s seen for free if the paw needs to be looked at, bandaged, given antibiotics, etc. and really to just let them know what happened. It’s not okay with me to have a dog sent home whimpering in pain when it was completely needless and avoidable. There was no medical reason for this to happen, someone just wasn’t being careful.
Anyway…the drugs are working, she seems to be feeling much better. We’ll get more of an idea how it really feels tomorrow morning and the first dose of pain killers has wore off completely. If she’s still in pain, I definitely think a visit is in order. But, honestly, hopefully she’s feeling better and it can just be a brief phone call. We shall see what happens. Good night!
