Can’t complain. Had a solid work day today. Got a lot done…though it also didn’t feel like getting a lot of work done. It was basically an entire day of downloading, checking files, sorting them, naming them, and updating things online for the rest of the team to see and track.

I’ve honestly just come to terms with the fact that 75% of the project that I’m currently working on involves not-editing editing work. It’s the vast majority of my time spent. But no matter. I have another big chunk of editing almost done. By Friday. That’s the goal, and goddamnit I shall meet it. Then, I kick off another batch next week.

Such exciting blog material! I know! But, man, that has been my *existence* lately. Werk Werk Werk Werk Werk. I know Rihanna feels me.

Imma be honest…I was afraid yesterday that maybe I was getting sick. I was feeling cold-y and ache-y…well, I’m not getting sick. It’s just allergies. I felt fine today, off and on, and the “offs” coincided pretty perfectly with my allergy meds running out of steam.

Coco currently has her head on my foot. She has been SO FREAKING SNUGGLY lately. Like, more than usual. And very playful. She gets playful whenever Coops is feeling vulnerable. I think it’s because she knows that he’s not going to be all interested in policing her when he’s like that, he’s too into his own stress, and so she can do what she wants. She gets to run around un-impeded. Fucking love my dogs. Both of them.

I was listening to a podcast this morning on “lawless” areas in the US, a few profiles of areas where crazy stuff has been going down. One of them was about an area in Oregon, just a stone’s throw from where I grew up, called Josephine County where they literally don’t have to resources to lock up (potentially) dangerous criminals any more. See, the local governments had all their funds tied to money from the Federal government paying royalties for the logging industry…well, that shit dried up back in 1994 when new Eco-friendly policies went into effect, and it’s had a dramatic effect on the industry. Collapse would be an appropriate word. And with all that missing funding, counties and municipalities have had nowhere to turn. And so they can’t keep their criminals locked up, even if they should have been. It’s crazy. And it’s all stuff I’ve seen with my own eyes, to a *slightly* lesser extent, in the course of my lifetime up in Humboldt.

It is *dramatically* different up there from when I was a kid. There were four mills in operation just on Humboldt bay alone…now there are none. Well, wait, maybe the LP mill is still running out there, I’m not sure…but the other three are gone. Palco (Pacific Lumber Company) used to have four mills going in Scotia, along with ancillary mills running in like three or four other locations simultaneously…now they have one left running in Scotia. I mean, it’s been a near-total collapse. In my lifetime. And the crime rates from the resulting poverty have skyrocketed. It’s not the town I grew up in…

Anywho…it’s a podcast called “Reveal” and I highly recommend giving it a listen. Not just this episode. All the stuff they do is awesome. It’s my new favorite podcast 🙂

SPEAKING of podcasts, rounded out my day (or night, more appropriately) by doing some editing on the Two Guys One Trek front. Hoping against hope that I can finish tomorrow with putting together all the “rough” drafts. After that, it’s just a matter of tweaking here and there, making sure levels are correct, etc. – then building the RSS feed, making all the mp3s with the proper artwork and metadata…it’s a lot of work, yo! But, Imma stay on top of that shit moving forward. Make sure it doesn’t pile up so dramatically. Putting together 30 podcast episodes all at once is a log more work than I anticipated. But, what are you gonna do? As the pandas say, you live and then you learn.

With that axiom, I bid you good evening. Catch y’all on the flip.
