Feel a bit better today, which deserves huzzahs and whoops. Still not 100%, but I was able to put in some REAL hours today of work. Like, 12. May sound foolhardy, I know, given that I just had to shut everything down for a few days entirely…but I knew I could do it today, and so I did. I *did* take a wee nap after lunch time. For an hour. But, that I’m pretty sure is what allowed me to work all the way until 11pm tonight.
Everything about this work project, and I mean *everything* about it has been slower than I’d hoped. Including my docket of work today. But…I soldiered on. And I still think I can make my deadline. Please, lord, let me hit that deadline.
Just had to take a break for a hot sec and upload the video for today. This last week has NOT been good for the vlogging…was too sick to document the sickness, and then now that I’m out of practice, I’m not remembering to film anything cool that happens during the day. Or, maybe not “cool,” but at least “something.” But, whatever. I decided to do it this month, and so I am. Case closed, yo.
In other news, despite its behemoth size, I am continuing to love love love my new iPad. I started filling out these rewrite worksheet PDFs today…ON MY IPAD. Didn’t even have to print them out; got an app where I can write directly onto them with my pencil. It’s. So. Freaking. Cool. That, and Scrivener officially released their app today. YEEEEESSSSSSSSS. That means my rewrites for Starstuff and my next novel will officially be written in Scrivener this year, and I could not be more excited about that. I really is so much more comfortable and easy sitting down and writing with my iPad rather than lugging around and burning my thighs with a full-fledged laptop. And now the app that I’ve been eyeing using…actually, I *did* use it to write my Trek short story “The Family Will Go On” earlier this year…I can finally use it between my computer and my iPad. Which is genuinely where I do…95% of my writing? I don’t like sitting at my desk. Don’t like it. I much prefer sitting in my writing chair, or in the old days when I was writing Starstuff, I’d sit up in bed. But not at the computer. Doesn’t feel right…and it also feels like there are too many distractions there. I genuinely see myself writing a lot of books away from my computer, and the release of the Scrivener app is really cool, just in that it might mean I can use the same program to write and rewrite my novels. We’ll see though. It might be pages for the first draft, and then Scrivener after that. I’m not sure. But we. Shall. See.
Comicon kicked off tonight down in San Diego. I have several friends who are attending. I’ve only ever been to Comicon once. I had a great time. but both the Ho and I decided that trips down in the future weren’t strictly necessary, unless there was a specific reason to attend. This year would have been cool, I suppose, because Star Trek Beyond was premiering with a giant outdoor inflatable IMAX-sized screen and the score was performed live…so that would have been fun, but whatever. I suppose since the movie is finally premiering tomorrow and did tonight for several thousand people, I can say that I’ve actually already seen the movie. It was a screening that the Ho invited me to during the notes-gathering process by Justin Lin, the director. It was a very rough cut of the film in that they were still doing minor tweaking, and the vast majority of the effects had yet to be finished…but the story was all there, and it will be FASCINATING to see what it is that they changed based on our screening and feedback, and all the other screenings they were doing throughout the process. Fan response so far seems to be possitive, which is awesome to see. It was the first time for me to ever get that kind of glimpse behind the curtain, to see a true “Hollywood” big-budget feature as a work in progress, and that peek will be complete once Liz and I go see the movie some time in the next couple days. So, thank you to Mr. Lin and his team for allowing me to have that little peek into the process, and I offer them my hope that Beyond makes hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars, which I’m sure it will 😉
That’s all for tonight. Feeling more myself, but still trying to take it easy! Wish me luck with that.
