Another day of work! So much work…
But I “finished” this Netflix project today. I put it in quotes because I still want to do one fiiiiinalll pass on this last batch of titles I finished. There might be a couple timing things here and there that I want to rework and put some polish on…or maybe not. We’ll see how I feel about it tomorrow.
I find that putting some distance between myself and what I’m working on is *immensely* helpful. Especially when it comes to the timing of something. It’s so easy to lose objectivity when you’ve worked on something for several hours, fiddling with literally fractions of a second…taking that time away is like taking a physical step back and looking at the whole picture, somewhat like the audience will see it.
The other antidote to this too-close-to-judge syndrome is to have a coworker that you can show the work to. Luckily, I have that as well on this project. I have that person in my writing, too…Liz. She’s my reader, man. Stephen King talked about how (most) writers have one specific person that they write for. For King, it’s his wife too. I like that we have that in common. I know Jon Scalzi is the same way; his wife reads his stuff, too. On a daily basis I think, as well.
Trying to focus on doing shorter paragraphs here on the old bloggity blog. I write now on this new iPad, which is quite a bit wider than my last one…and since this WordPress app spans the entire width of the writing area, AND we now write in landscape mode instead of portrait…well that’s a recipe for super wide lines of text, which means when they get compressed down into the column on my website, they’re suuuuper long if I don’t pay attention.
Plus, Stephen King says keep those paragraphs short. All hail the King.
Got VO work done today, too. Not as much as I’d wanted, about half as much as I’d wanted, to be completely honest…but that’s okay. It seemed equally or more important to get this Flix project settled. Today was the final day I wanted that to be outstanding work. Mission accomplished.
I think that’s all I’ve got for you tonight, except perhaps that the A’s just completed a four-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals and we DESTROYED them. One game was close, but the other three were absolute domination. This is the team that won the friggin World Series last year. They’re in the hunt for a wildcard spot this year. The A’s rolled into town as the second worst team in the AL…BUT…we’re not that same team any more. We’ve shipped out all our older players and the new generation is playing…and playing well!
There is hope yet.
Night, guys. May the A’s be a good team next year, blessed be the baseball gods.
Oh! And Kerry and Andrew left today to go back home. Sadness and grief. But it was so nice to have them whilst they were here. Miss you guys already!
