I got to watch team USA beat Japan tonight at Dodger stadium to advance to the semi-finals of the World Baseball Classic. It was SO FUN.

First of all, props to the Japanese fans. They were amazing. Every single one of their players had an individualized chant that they would sing for them when they were up to bat, complete with drums and horns and custom-made flags. Truly wonderful fans.

It was also rainy out today, and we were a bit worried the game wasn’t actually going to be played…but it was, and the players gutted through it. There were a couple field-aided errors and only one home run. I, to be frank, can’t believe that we beat them. We’ve never played well in the WBC, partly because so few of our top US players agree to play, and partly because it takes place in the middle of Spring Training, and none of our players are truly big-game-ready. Japan, on the other hand, has always played exceptionally well. They won the first two championships, in fact.

But, man…we did it. Our go-ahead run was on an error by their third baseman. Crazy. The game ended 2-1, US. USA! USA! USA!

Otherwise, it was a normal workday for me. My neck is a bit frozen up at the moment, so I’m going to cut this short and sleep that shit off…but it was a good day. I was so excited to go and see my second WBC game, and I was so excited to see team USA make it to their first finals. It all goes down tomorrow against Puerto Rico. BRING IT.
