Man, I had quite the eventful Easter Sunday 🙂
It started early with a shower (oohhhh yyeeeessss) and a walk with the pups. Then, we were off to the other side of the hill to meet up with the Canadas for brunch at the Grove.
When we got there, we were pleasantly surprised to realize that Laduree had tables open and so we ate there instead of at Umami Burger like we had anticipated. Annie and Justin are Lardon’s pup parents, and Lardon is a shih tzu instagram friend. He’s so friggin cute.
I learned the key to his heart today, and that is toys. He loooovvveessss his toys. And if you play with him, he’ll love you forever. He really likes the game where you wiggle them on the ground and he bites and pounces on them like they’re alive. That’s his favorite. He also likes to play fetch. Reminds me a lot of the Coops.
Then we drove over to the King’s house and hung out there with Matt, Cat, and the kids for a while. That was super fun. Wolfie sat on my lap almost the whole time and he wanted to show me all of his musical instruments. He kept trying to get me to play his harmonica after he’d slobbered all over it…which I politely declined. It was really gd cute tho.
We stopped by BCD on the way home and got ourselves some soon tofu, came home, and ate it together. Theeennn…we passed out and took a nap. Even the pups were like, “woah, that was a lot, yo.”
Then I got up and watched the recorded Warriors v Blazers game in which Portland’s two best players were excellent…and they still lost by 12 points. The Warriors are just so, so good. I’m stunned watching these other teams play, actually, that the Warriors lost last year in the finals. The way this team plays their offense, how much they share and move the ball…it’s really incredible. And underappreciated by the casual fan, which I certainly am…but I’m finally starting to see it.
See, most other basketball teams rely on brute strength to muscle the ball inside. They have one, two, sometimes three players if they’re an elite team, that just take over a game by sheer force of will, clanging and banging their way towards the basket. Not the Warriors. The Warriors run in loops, pass, pass, and keep passing, they stay mostly on the outside, and they just keep moving the ball until someone is either open on the outside, or left alone in the middle of the court. It’s the reason why they lead the league both in assists by a HUGE margin, and also turnovers (I think?). But, they’ll take the turnovers, because all that passing seems to not only create an incredible number of open shots for them, but it also runs the other teams’ defense ragged…the upshot of that was on display tonight: they dominated late in the game. The Blazers simply ran out of gas.
I don’t see other teams playing like that. They don’t run this pass-first shoot-second offense. They try to muscle their way into the basket. Including the Cavs. Granted, LeBron is no slouch, obviously given that he took over and beat the Warriors last finals…but I’m honestly stunned that it worked. If the Warriors get to the finals this year…I bet they beat them.
The only other team I see play like the Warriors is San Antonio. If anyone reading this know more about basketball and other teams…let me know if I’m seeing this stuff correctly. And let me know if anyone else out there plays their offense like the Warriors do. I’ve watched enough basketball this year to finally notice the PATTERNS…it’s fun.
Anywho, good night, y’all, and hope you had a nice weekend.
