I’m riding the high right now of being very near finished with a project. It is the friggin BEST FEELING.
Season 2 of Two Guys One Trek is done. Almost 😛 There’s one last baby step, and this time it really WILL be a baby step – listening to each episode over the next couple weeks and making tweaks here and there as necessary. Just to make sure nothing slipped through the cracks. But, man…it is SO satisfying to be done with that. And on time.
This last step, putting the two finishing touches on each episode – that is the opening snippets that play during the theme song to kind of hype up the episode, and then the middle section where I play snippets of Josh and I watching each episode together – they really, really, really make this podcast for me. It is SO FUN watching these episodes with Josh…our banter back and forth is my absolute favorite thing about doing this whole project…and including that, even in such a condensed form, is magical for me. It is the SHINE that elevates this podcast from a chore to a work of art.
That it’s to tout the podcast in any sort of critical or objective sense…I simply means that’s what it does for me. It’s also perfect perfect perfect that it’s the last step, because it completely washes away any sort of insecurities I’ve had about the show in general, or an episode in particular. It *sings* with those last two additions. It’s a well-oiled machine, shiny, polished, and humming.
I figured out just a few minutes ago, while I was flossing, that each episode of Two Guys One Trek takes 5 hours to complete from start to finish. Here’s the breakdown:
1. Recording (including intro, watching the episode, and commentary) – 2 hours
2. Listening and marking up notes for edits and snippets – 1 hour
3. Rendering out snippets – 30 minutes
4. Executing edits – 30 minutes
5. Editing down and inserting episode watching snippets for middle transition, adding snippets at beginning music – 1 hour
And that doesn’t actually include making the artwork for each episode, doing a write-up for each episode, listening through the full cut for any final edits/adjustments, executing final edits/adjustments, and then finally adding metadata in iTunes…that’s probably another good half hour or so…
So, I amend my former statement: it’s really *6* hours of work per episode. That means when TG1T releases its 3rd season, the final one of the original series, it will represent…474 hours of effort. Holy shit. I don’t even know how that’s possible…
That’s about as much time as I’ve put into my novel, to be honest…and you know what? Finishing this podcast will feel just about the same in terms of effort and pride. I am enormously proud of this podcast. I love it. Love love love it. I’ll always look back on the days of podcasting with Josh and think “awww…those were good times. The best of times.” Always.
Anyway…I’m taking the day off tomorrow. I’ve earned it, yo! Big time.
I wanted to get twice as much actually done this week…but after just my first day on Monday, I knew that was actually impossible…so this means I’m really right on time. I was as efficient as I needed to be, and honestly, probably as efficient as I could possibly be. The May 29th release date is FINALLY a release date that I can stick to, and I cannot friggin wait to share this podcast with everyone.
Season 2 is 🔥🔥🔥
Artwork tonight is from Tiemo Beauregard…and it’s DOPE. I want this guy to make some book covers for me!
