I’m standing on the precipice, about to jump.

It hasn’t really sunk in yet, but Monday starts a new chapter in my life…writing full time. It’s happening. Finally. It really hasn’t sunk in yet…nevertheless it is true.

I suppose I’ll just put my head down and start, not think too much about the big picture at first. That’s usually how these things go for me – once I’ve settled into somewhat of a routine, I’ll actually pause to look up and around and evaluate what’s working and what’s not working. Strategize from there. Which isn’t to say that I don’t have a plan; I do, and a very clear one: get my manuscript ready to pass off to my editor at the end of the week.

I have notes to cover, thank you to all my readers who provided feedback — and I’m going to go through them and tweak here and there as necessary. This round of feedback has really, really hit home for me how much of an impact the smallest of details can have on the reader’s experience. Literally a single line or paragraph can change the course of where the story takes someone, or how they respond to it. It’s both emboldening, because fixing a couple lines here and there takes almost no time and has such a huge impact…and at the same time is rather daunting because it means its so easy to screw up.

Listening to some Vivaldi tonight while I write this entry – it’s Summer in G minor, the Allegro con molto, which is some incendiary writing for the violin – very fast and lively, and it’s definitely making the entry pour out rather quickly 😛 I don’t usually write with music in the background, but for some reason it seemed appropriate tonight.

The Ho and I watched Doctor Strange tonight and weren’t that impressed. She liked it less than I did, but both of us were certainly underwhelmed. The movie has plenty of fun stuff, don’t get me wrong; having the ‘Batch as a superhero is obviously something the world needs, and the action/fight sequences in the movie were undeniably inspired – breathtaking at times, in fact…BUT, the plot and character development was sketchy at best. They did the best with Doctor Strange himself, but virtually everyone and everything else kinda made no goddamn sense…or was woefully generalized and under-explained/justified. It’s a fun sandbox they created, but they didn’t really fill it with much.

The Ho said she was bored most of the time – I wouldn’t go that far. I was entertained. But, I was never invested. I’d still watch another one from them, but expectations would be tempered.

Oh, and the movie is racist as fuck…so, there’s that. Hashtag whitewashing.

That’s all I got for tonight. I had a wonderful, wonderful day with the Ho and the pups. It was heaven. I need a few days off! At least I’ve had a couple in a row now 😛

Night!
