The Warriors won tonight in epic fashion. Truly, truly epic. I believe they were down by 6 points with under 2 minutes to go…and they won by 5. That’s just…incredible. It’s incredible. And they’re 15-0 in the postseason. That’s never been done before.
Now, here’s the reality: none of that means *anything* if they don’t get that 4th win and that ring. That’s the reality. That was the heartbreak (for Warriors fans) with not winning game 7 last year…it could have been the best season of basketball in history, ever…but they lost game 7 of the finals. The 73 wins now are just a statistic. An amazing stat, no doubt, but not the greatest EVER. Not getting the ring will forever diminish that record-breaking season.
Well…now the Warriors have another shot at being labeled the best ever – if they can win game 4 on Friday, they’ll be the best team ever assembled. I’m calling it. So, I hope they make history and do it. Even if the *don’t* win that game…just getting the 4th win and the ring will be enough for them to always be considered ONE OF the best teams ever assembled. I’m happy with either.
I’m also calling that they’re not going to keep Durant. He’ll move onto another team, maybe even to play with LeBron in Cleveland. And the Warriors will have another shot next year to again prove the haters right or wrong and beat the Cavs in the finals once more. It’s not going to be over this year, I don’t think. I hope not. It’s incredibly, incredibly entertaining basketball…and the truth is that the Warriors are still a dominant team without Kevin Durant. I think that’s why he’ll leave. I think this year of being hated will make him leave.
But…I hope not. If he stays…the Warriors could win two or three more championships. In a row.
I had a rough day of work, but at least I did an hour of writing. I just was out too late last night and it screwed me up.
Better luck tomorrow! Mom’s coming into town and we’re going to see Liz’s taping together on Friday. Huzzah! 🙂
