I had a really, really good day off. YEEEESSSSS.
I have this new system that I’m trying to learn and get down, guys, that should lead to anxiety-free (or at least WORK anxiety-free) down time…it’s called “Getting Things Done” (yes, I know, suuuper on-the-nose name but that it literally what it’s called) and I was turned onto it from the mentions of a couple authors that I follow. I’m currently listening to the newly revised audio book, and then I’m going to read the original book (which I hear is actually much better) after that. Hopefully those two methods of ingestion will really make it sink in. We. Shall See.
But, already, I’m finding myself to be less stressed out overall, more confident in the work that I’m doing at any given time, and more focused. And I haven’t even really finished the method from beginning to end. I’m just using this app called OmniFocus. It’s an inbox, essentially, and an action sorter. So, anything that I need to do or get done goes into this inbox, which I then sort through each day and schedule and categorize everything according to due date/time and project. And then…
…I forget about it. The idea is that I CAN forget about it, because it’s now all in a system instead of festering inside my head. I can use the app to make sure everything gets done, nothing gets forgotten, and I just focus on the present and do whatever it is that’s supposed to be in front of me.
Pretty genius. Not me, the person who developed the system.
So…yeah. On the weekly, which I’ve set for Sundays, there’s a Project Review stage, which I go through each of my projects and update/rearrange stuff as needed, depending on what’s happened since the last time I reviewed them. It gives me a larger picture of where I’m at and where I want to go. And I’m learning a lot from the audio book about the science behind this methodology and where our stress comes from on a day-to-day basis. Or a lot of it, at least.
Tomorrow, I write 6,000 words. Big day. Gonna go to sleep now. Good night 😉 In juuuust over a week, I’ll be done with the first draft of my second novel. Gaaaahhhhhh.
