Okay, so I had a solid day of writing. It wasn’t spectacular, but it was exactly what I needed. I’ve dove into this rewrite and I got significant progress done today.
And, let’s see…I have to do editing stuff tomorrow all day, but I think I’m going to start that off with a small goal. I’m going to get to page 100 first thing in the AM.
Then, I need to finish this editing stuffs. If I can. I’m not sure that one day is sufficient for that, but I will do my darndest. I also need to let them know that I can’t do any more for them till after I finish this draft beginning-to-mid January. Which is only a month away. A MONTH AWAY. Come hell or high water, you guys, I will have a second book written in another month. Whew! Twill have taken me juuuuust over 6 months.
I hope it’s a decent book.
I was reading today, and much more works than I was afraid didn’t. It’s going to be a fine book…maybe even really good. We’ll see how much I can eek out of it. I am optimistic.
So, yeah. Praise be to the writing gods. Today was exactly what I wanted it to be. I am…believe it or not…in the zone on this book. Or maybe not quite in the “zone”…but resolved. I *am* going to get the work done I need to. I’m not going to worry about how hard it will be, I’m just going to put my head down and DO it. There are a couple steps I’m going to have to skip this time around, and we’ll see how that affects the final product…but my gut actually tells me that if I’m able to “skip” those steps…they might not be all that crucial.
This “writing fast” is an experiment for ME…but it is something that many, many authors out there right now are doing at this very moment, and having quite a bit of success. So, here I go. I’ll write as fast as I can. There may be some “special” projects that I really nurse along and let simmer and cook for a long time before I really polish and shine them up (mixing metaphors there, stay with me)…but I’m giving this aggressive writing schedule a go.
I want to LEARN, and man, WRITING is the best way to do that. Let’s get a million words out in a YEAR. Let’s see what I can learn from that. I guarantee you, if I keep a critical eye on what I’m producing, that I will improve vastly in 2018 as a writer. I hope it’s a huge step towards a very long, very successful career. I want to be one of those authors who “came out of nowhere”…in like 2019 or 2020 after having written for a couple years, and my shit is dope because I had those years to really cut my teeth and build an audience.
Don’t get me wrong; I want to be able to make a living leading up to that point…but I *do* want to break out someday, and it would be nice for that to happen when I’m really confident in my skills.
Thoughts tonight, after a very successful day. Here’s to another one tomorrow. Good night!
Tonight’s artwork is called “Earth Colossus” by Chase Stone.
Go get ’em, Tiger! You can do it! Stop thinking about it and type! You’re on the right track! Been there, done that, got the tee-shirts, ball-caps, mugs, pens and scars!
I have faith in you. You really delivered with Starstuff. I’m sharing it with everyone I know. I hope you like the reviews. You deserve to be read. Keep at it.
Dr. Geoff! I just saw your review(s)! Thank you so much for the encouragement, you have *no idea* how much that means to me 🙂 I also saw your message on goodreads just now, too — I’ll reach out to you tomorrow and see about arranging some ARC-team amazingness 🙂 STAY AWESOME
