Not sure what to call the entry tonight…
It was a weird Saturday. I kind of went through the paces today. I’m not sure why…but I did. The writing was still good. I did get it done. 800 words. Good words, too. The scene is working. It solved a plot problem I thought I had, but now that I’ve arrived at it, it’s not. It totally makes sense.
I watched the Warriors own the Spurs. This is a good first-round matchup for them. Perhaps even the best they could have hoped for, actually, because of how well they’ve played them in the regular season, even when they were struggling.
I took a nap. That was wonderful.
I watched the A’s lose to the Mariners, even though they scored 8 runs. Our pitching this year is worse than hoped for. Our offense is actually delivering; much to be pleased about there. But not the pitching. Sigh…
Then I watched the episode of Dirty Money on Netflix about Donald Trump, and holy jesus. Like, if law enforcement digs into Trump, which is happening right now…it’s likely, even probable, that he’s going to prison. Or, at least, that he’ll be a convicted criminal. The people he’s done business with, particularly internationally, are known criminals. Dozens of them. And, as it turns out, that is illegal in the US, to do business with known criminals. That makes you a criminal as well.
I genuinely fear for my country in the coming years. I agree with the assessment of one of the interviewees in this documentary…Trump is scary, yes; he represents DIRTY MONEY in this country, a reality we don’t often deal with well…but what’s much, much scarier is that Trump was ELECTED president. There’s something not just in Trump, but in our country at large. That so much bigger, and so much harder to fix. The people have bought into Trump’s shady ways of conducting business and politics…and that’s a true game changer.
Unless these next two elections turn out the way I hope they will: as an outright rebuke of everything the man stands for. I want this country to show me a majority that is furious such a man should have been elected to the highest political office we have, and that vows to not let it happen again.
And then we need to do some REAL WORK on getting money out of politics. It very well could be the undoing of our country if we don’t.
Nightly, night.
