Happiness isn’t what a lot of us think it is.

A lot of us think that happiness is that feeling that comes when we eat incredible food, or right after we finish a really hard project and it turned out better than we hoped, or when we get to sleep in an extra half hour. I include myself in that “us,” by the way, especially when I’m not paying attention.

But, that’s not happiness. That’s actually an endorphin rush, pumping into our brain. That’s euphoria. It’s an experience. It’s an emotion.

Happiness is more than a moment. It’s a state of being. It’s a “norm.” Meaning, happiness is something that persists.

Ie- it’s not as flashy as all those amazing things up there. It’s calmer than that. Happiness is knowing that you’re okay, that you’re in the right place in your life, and that things may be tough sometimes, but that life is more good than it is bad.

For me, happiness is calm confidence. It’s being able to close my eyes and not have my head swirling with anxiety, or my heart pumping. Happiness for you may be something completely different, in fact I’m sure it’s at least SLIGHTLY different because happiness varies from person to person…

…but I posit that the common denominator for us all is that happiness is the state of mind where we know what we can control and what we can’t, and we’re okay with it.

Josh and I talked about that today before we podcasted. It was a fun conversation.

Today ended up being a bit hijacked. But…that’s okay. I got some stuff done that needed to get done; namely the flat tire on my car.

Poor Schnoops! Flat tire! They were able to repair the tire, actually, which was awesome. Free. Under warranty. Bummer was that I had to get it all the way out to Northridge, and that shit is faaaaarrr. I was worried I wasn’t going to make it back to podcast with Josh, but everything worked out! Crisis averted!

Started with going over to the other building for some stuff. We’re covering another building, did I mention that? That happened first thing. Then I came home and put together my new chair! The one that’s missing its ottoman 😛 But, I’m going to go grab that tomorrow after I finish my writing.

Put that shit together, and then realized I needed my car, like NEEDED my car for stuff tomorrow, and so I bought us a new Costco membership and just went to Northridge.

Then, it was podcasting and giggles with Josh. We watched First Contact. It’s a fun movie. Such a fun movie! After that, it was working an audition with the bear.

Now…here we are. That was my day. It was a lot of running around. Not ideal, and I did not get any writing done…but that’s okay. I’m back at it tomorrow. 3,000 words, and it’s gonna happen. I have that confidence, finally. Took awhile, but here we are. The struggle NOW is getting my reading in every day 😛 But, one step at a time. That’s next. Oh, and the exercising, but damn…I’ve been pretty on that shit. Halfway through my second week, thank you very much.

Life is good. I’m happy.

Good night.
