Tell your sister…you were right…
The Ho and I watched the despecialized Return of the Jedi tonight. You know, as an adult now, it’s undoubtedly the weakest of the three…but man, it still works for me. I know so much of that viewpoint is influenced by how old I was when I first watched it, and don’t get me wrong, there are definitely sequences that are clunky…but it still works.
I think all the stuff on Endor is fun. All the sneaking around, the chases, the battles, even the Ewoks. I think the space battle is AWESOME. I think about the battles they did for the first Star Wars, and holy crap, they out-do themselves in the finale. I think the take-down of Jabba in the dunes is dope, if the castle stuff is a bit wah-wah. And I think the final showdown with the Emperor is actually terrifying. What he does to Luke, getting so close to killing him, works. It plays. The Emperor could only be defeated by both Luke and his father together. That’s how the light side wins. And Vader redeeming himself to a small degree at the end there is just a good choice.
So, yeah, it works for me 🙂 It doesn’t have the novel exuberance of the first film, nor does it have the detail and precision of the second…but it still works. It’s the most epic of the three, that’s for sure.
The day started off today with Cat and Wolfie coming over for a visit. That was fun. Wolf looovvveessss the doggos. Then it was writing for me and some clerical/housekeeping stuff, and then suddenly it was time to go and meet Lizderfer for some early dinner. That was really fun, nice to catch up with her…and then home. I got my reading done, and then we sat down and watched the movie, just for kicks. I felt like I needed something to cap the day off, and I haven’t watched this blu-ray burn yet. It was flawless.
A solid day. 1,000 words written. Working my way back into my groove after missing two days of writing last week. Or was it three? I think it was three. Yikes. But, we’re back. We stumble, but we don’t fall. The writing was GOOD today, too. This scene I’m on is a keeper.
Night!
