I have so many thoughts right now about my day today, things happening in the political sphere of my country, how nice these fresh sheets are on my bed, the movies (yes ‘movies’ plural) I watched today that I need to write reviews for, a like, six others, I’m so far behind, about family and how overwhelming those can be at times…

I’m not sure, really, where to start…

My day was good. It started with the pups and some writing. I had aspirations of writing through the weekend, doing 4,000 words a day…but I need my weekends most of the time for planned mental days off. I still write, but I don’t go full tilt. I rest my brain. I nap. That kind of stuff. So, I did that stuff today. I watched some baseball. I wrote a bit. I watched a pair of movies. I went to dinner with ze wife.

Political stuff…it comes down to a couple things: 1) No, it is not right that Sarah Huckabee Sanders was refused service at a restaurant because she’s conservative and works for the White House. Just change “conservative” to “LGBTQ” in that sentence. HOWEVER…my conservative friends who read this: this outrage you feel from what happened? It’s *exactly* what the LGBTQ+ community, and all their allies, feel when this happens to them. It’s why we took the fight over it all the way to the Supreme Court. Perhaps, instead of using this incident to discredit the other side as hypocrites, we can instead realize that we have some common ground here: it sucks be discriminated against because of your background, gender, or lifestyle. Let’s not let that happen in our country.

And 2) this whole “we’ve been separating families at our borders since 1997” bullshit. It’s. Not. True. That is a twisting of the facts for entirely political finger-pointing. Yes, we’ve been detaining illegal immigrants for decades, and YES, President Obama did this at unprecedented levels (until Trump)…and yes, there was a policy Bill Clinton designed in the 90s that directed border patrol to separate children from the adults brining them across the border. That is all true…

HOWEVER…

That policy enacted in the 90s was specifically aimed and enforced to address the problems of child trafficking, ie- children being taken into this country against their will by adults who meant to sell or enslave them. It was a policy designed to help immigrant children, and get them out of a terrible situation. It was NOT designed to separate children from their loving PARENTS as a means to act as a deterrent for illegal crossings. This is why there was such an uproar. It was a drastic, ugly, and downright fucking fascist policy that the vast majority of people in this country, GOP lawmaker included, found absolutely shocking.

Furthermore…there *was* outrage during the Obama administration for the uptick in holding and deporting immigrants crossing from Mexico. It was a big thing. Several podcasts I listened to were scathing in their coverage of the issue, and there was outrage. And to suggest otherwise, in an attempt to discredit the disgust over Trump’s NEW policies, indicates to me that anyone doing so simply wasn’t paying attention beforehand and it making that argument simply because it aligns with their political bias.

Whew.

Okay…so that’s been on my mind a lot lately.

Movies were fine today. Neither was particularly good, but they also knew what pulpy cheese they were and they didn’t try to be more than that. I’ll write about them in more detail hopefully tomorrow. We’ll see if I get my shit together 😛

Night!
