Liz and I went out to see a comedy show tonight. Her former cast-mate from Disjointed Chris was in town, and his long-time show partner Moses runs a regular night downtown, PLUS her friend KT was also going to be there…and so we went.

It was an *excellent* lineup. For real. I was very impressed with all of the comedians. Al Madrigal was there, a Daily Show correspondent, and he was totally workshopping jokes. Brand-new material. That kind of stuff is fascinating to watch. It was a really cool show. And the we went and got BCD Tofu with KT afterwards, and that was peeerrfffeeeccttt.

I wrote a lot today. I didn’t *quite* finish my book…but that is actually going to happen tomorrow. I have two last scenes to write, and that’s it. This draft is done. Finally. And more of it is working than isn’t. FINALLY.

Then…I think I’ll take a day off, and jump right into rewrites, to be honest. I have to actually finish this thing…go back and fix it, polish it, make it shine. That’s my mission after this draft: make it work.

Editing has never been my favorite…but it IS where half of the magic comes from. Half of the magic of an excellent story is the polish and the shine of a well-oiled, perfectly tuned machine. The other half of the magic is just the raw Idea of it all, and that comes out in the drafting…but the rest is making sure all the puzzle pieces are properly fit together, and that the image is perfect when you step back and take it all in. THAT’s the purpose of editing and a rewrite.

Not my fave. But, so so important.

Night.
