Got together with my Disjointed in laws today. That’s really the best way to describe it, to be honest; in-laws. I didn’t go through what they did, but they’re extended family nonetheless because of it. Chris Redd, who played Dank on the show, won an Emmy last weekend for writing and producing a song and video for SNL. It was a wonderful reason to get together and hang out.
I know I’ve said it before, but it’s still true: that cast is amazing together. They’re one of those special groups that genuinely love each other’s company. Kathy Bates just had everyone over for a lazy Sunday afternoon just because she missed everyone, and Chris was in town and being recognized for his excellence. They wanted to celebrate him, and they wanted to see each other. Special stuff. I love them all, and all their significant others like me.
Today is Day 2 of 90. I wrote for fifteen minutes and outlined/brainstormed…and had a breakthrough on the scene I was about to put to paper. I had Petrick ending up with the wrong person. It’s so obvious what the right choice is, it’s one of those choices that I know is going to stick in the final draft; one of those choices where you stumble upon it and feel like it smacked you in the face because it’s so obvious. If it was a snake, it would have bit me, I’d been so close to it.
I got to watch the A’s play; they lost. Barely. I got to watch the Niners play (finished it after we got back from Kathy’s). They won. Barely. Garappolo has talent. For sure. We saw it last year. But, he’s struggling to start the season. He actually threw a (likely) game-ending interception in the fourth quarter, but it was called back because of a penalty off the ball. He struggled to throw the football, despite a healthy QB rating at the end of the game. Stafford out-threw him by almost 150 yards. Not good. But, he’s young. There’s still some time for him to prove he can handle it…
Anywho, it’s off to bed with me. I want to get up on time and have a nice productive day of writing tomorrow. I’m excited, genuinely excited, about this scene now. Finally. It was this one little tweak. I sensed that something dramatic had to change in this scene to set up the events to follow…and it just wasn’t there yet. Now…I dare say it is.
Wish me luck.
