I want 4K.
No, not the TV resolution. The writing goal. That’s what I want tomorrow. Just saying it out loud.
Here’s the plan: have a decently restful day during the day tomorrow (get my stuff done early)…and then rock the writing. The key is always getting the first two sessions done to total 3,000 words. If I do that, I’m always golden for the last 1,000. That’s my focus tomorrow, those first two sessions.
The A’s lost the Wild Card game against the Yankees tonight. They got bombed. 7-2. Our pitching just couldn’t do it. Even though we were throwing out best relievers against them, we couldn’t do it. And our bats were almost completely silent. We did nothing at the plate, save some walks and a 2-run homer from Davis (he’s so consistently awesome it’s incredible).
I hope we don’t lose Khris Davis. I’m afraid we will. It’d be absolutely infuriating to see this team, with so much power and potential, slide into mediocrity because we wouldn’t open our wallets to pay some players. We need to pay Davis, and we need to bring in at least a pair of genuine starting pitchers, one of whom needs to be an ace. A legit ace. Team like that could win a World Series…
I’ve come around. The barrel-scraping A’s aren’t going to win a World Series until they pay some players. I truly believe it. The Moneyball A’s are competitive like whoa in the course of the regular season, but the postseason really, truly is something different: the pitching is just *so* *much* better. And the teams with deeper pockets have those pitchers who can straight up shut you down when they need to win a game. Four postseason appearances for the BoMel A’s. Four winner-take-all games. We’re 0-4. Two of those were on Verlander. Two of those were on a bullpen that just couldn’t get the job done (though, to be fair, this year’s situation is muuuuuch different than 2014. This year was really about us having absolutely no starting pitching to throw in the WC game).
So…pay Davis. Please. And sign some dominant starting pitchers. And, you know what, let Franklin Barretto play.
What a season. This young core of players, anchored by some very important veterans, won 97 games. Incredible. Given our starting rotation? In. Cred. I. Ble. I had a blast watching them. Here’s to next year 🍻
I’m freaking wiped. It’s time for sleeps.
Tomorrow: writing.
