Why go to an industry conference/convention?
The answer isn’t really the panels and seminars.
That is *part* of why you go, but I honestly mean it’s only like 10% of it.
The real reason is you go for the bar chats later that night. For reals. THAT is where connections are made. That is where community is truly created. Friendships are made. Ideas flow. Advice is given and accepted.
It’s goddamn magic.
Last year was definitely a good experience for me. I met people last year when I really knew NOBODY. I was new to the scene. I had just published my very first book. I met some people and made some friends…
…but this year…
This year has been incredible. Because I did know those very few people, because there was a small group that recognized my face and had heard my name before…it’s been amazing, these evenings afterwards down at the bar, just talking and sharing a making friends.
It just takes that foot in the door, just to crack it open. I’ve met so many more people this year. It just felt easier, you know? Because I knew a few. Just a few.
This community is amazing. So kind. So diverse. So generous with their ideas and advice and personal stories. There is so much excitement and optimism. It’s one of the most wonderful groups I’ve ever been a part of.
I didn’t think this year could top last year, because last year was so amazing.
It’s been topped.
Three cheers to everyone I’ve had the pleasure to meet and talk to this year, no matter how brief or lengthy. You’ve given me the gift of positivity and love.
I feel filled up.
I feel ready to take several steps forward. Ready to write.
Still one more day to go, so off to bed with me it is. But, what an amazing couple of days.
Thank you 🤓😘
