So, I’m sitting in bed right now at the Omni Hotel in downtown Los Angeles…and Joe and Madhuri are getting married tomorrow.
TOMORROW.
For anyone who doesn’t know, which I bet is a lot of you: Liz and I have known Joe and Madhuri for…almost 8 years, I think. Maybe even nine years. Maybe even TEN years. I think it’s been 8. Anyway…
Joe and I met in college. He was going to USC with my wife Liz, and after a very brief period of being rather skeptical of each other, we became the best of friends. There were a couple years there after college where Joe and I would talk at least once a week, checking in with each other about our acting goals and being accountable to each other for getting done what we said we were going to get done. We made a movie together.
Madhuri was the first girl that I actually met while Joe was dating her. And she was so, soooo good. I remember honestly thinking that Joe was going to fuck it up. Or, maybe not thinking he was, but worried he was.
Well, he hasn’t. Quite the opposite. The two of them have proved to bring the absolute best out in each other. And man, if that isn’t the true marker for me of a good relationship: when two people come together and both become better, happier, healthier people because of it. I like to think that Liz and I do that for each other–I know we do–and I am a very happily married man. I can’t wait for tomorrow for Joe and Madhuri to cross the same threshold together and become a happily married couple.
Marriage is a wonderful thing, you guys, when it’s with the right person. A wonderful, wonderful thing (love you, bear!).
So, yeah. I’m getting a bit misty-eyed here in the Omni king-sized bed. Little tipsy. Tired. And so, so excited for these two dear friends of mine.
It’s an early day tomorrow, so I’ll wrap it here. More to report tomorrow on Joe + Madhuri = Forever.
