Flow state is the best thing in the world. It doesn’t matter what the activity is. That feeling of just reacting, not thinking, just doing…it’s heaven. It’s like…floating…but also being a badass master. Ya know?
I’ve had that whilst writing. It was a while ago. But I’ve had it. I had it tonight playing Beat Saber, which just makes me giggle to say, but it’s true. That game is freaking flow state. That’s why I love it. Not because it’s hard (it is), or because the music is fun (it is), or even because being inside the VR headset is so immersive (also true)…really, it’s the flow state. My mind gets to turn off and I just listen to the music and relax.
It’s definitely not the first allure of the game. All those other reasons are what sucked me in…but it’s the flow state that brings me back. I’ve kinda gotten to a level of proficiency where I just recognize the patterns that are coming towards me, and I just react. Flow state.
It’s also a good (mediocre?) cardio workout 🙂
I’m researching right now for my writing. Once I realized that was the phase I was in, I felt a lot less anxiety about what to do with my writing time. And I mean actual RESEARCH. I have to pay attention to the books that I’m reading (or, more accurately, listening to), and once I finish the book–I’ve finished two of them now–I go onto Amazon and I read their reviews.
I’ve been told to read reviews before…but I never actually I did it. I was an idiot. They. Are. A. Gold. Mine.
Seriously. You want to know what a market looks like, loves and hates? Just go and read the customer reviews on Amazon. They’re an incredibly unique inside peak into the minds of the people who make up that market.
I have learned so much already, and I’m just getting started.
Granted, some of this info can lead to overload and indecisiveness. This is true. I don’t doubt it will happen to me…but I’ll get through it. I will cut through the overload and find the intersection of this reader market and what I love to write. Because it is there. I can see it already.
It’s time for bed.
More work tomorrow. Huzzah!
