Entries have been short the past couple nights, but only because it’s a bit of the old brain overload after these long days PLUS watching a movie at night, and then doing homework.
Tonight we watched Gloria, which I guess was one of those critically-acclaimed well-made movies from an era that I never lived through (the late 70s/very early 80s) that just didn’t quite rise up out of that era into timelessness/classic territory.
It was really good. Not perfect, but solid. And it just made me think about a TON of movies that are competently made with maybe one specific aspect that’s truly excellent (in this case, it was Gena Rowlands as the titular character – and she was nominated for an Academy Award for it), but otherwise just fine…that just kind of disappear over time. They fade away under the weight of all the other decently made movies–and the bad ones too. It’s only the seismically good films that stay evergreen. Or maybe not “evergreen” since those movies are still good…but at least in the sense of popular culture, they kinda get forgotten.
Anyway…it was a fun watch. Very well constructed story-wise as well. It starts at a 10 and turns it up to 11, that’s for sure. I can see why we watched it 🤓
Time for bed. Thanks for reading 🍻
