Had an extended discussion today with Josh about “genre,” a holdover from my time out in Nashville.
I love podcasting with that dude. We recorded another great one today watching The French Connection. Certainly not our favorite of the films we’ve watched thus far…but we did find it, as always, to be stimulating for conversation.
I didn’t do all that much else today. I went to sleep too late last night, and I woke up late this morning because of it. Le sigh.
I just did my writing. Wasn’t much, but I finished off a scene. 444 words, this scene, which is just how I like it. Nice and quick. In and out. Keep the pace. Keep the tension. I dig it. There’s danger on the border.
Started listening to Starship Troopers today on the (very rainy!) drive over to Josh’s for podcasting times…and damn. It’s a good book already. Granted, I differ from a lot of Heinlein’s politics in this book, but it’s instantly gripping and well-written. I can already tell you it’s going to be the best Military SciFi book that I’ve read, and that’s rather incredible given it kinda strikes me as the first of its kind. A pioneering work that hasn’t been topped is…well, I was going to say rather rare, but I don’t really know if that’s true. I’ll have to think about that. Silence of the Lambs kinda pioneering the Thriller–at least the serial killer kind–and I’m not sure that book has ever been topped.
Anyway…time for sleeps. Hope you’re all having a great day out there. See you tomorrow 🙂
