It felt like a weekend today. The first one that’s felt like that in a long time.

Liz and I hung out all day today and it was lovely. We watched TV together and ate food together and walked the pups, both morning and night, and we watched The Winter Soldier together way too late into the night.

It’s almost 1am.

A perfect day.

Liz encouraged me to get the dj controller I’ve been obsessing about for the past week or so…so I just got it. It’s a few hundred dollars. Definitely not the strictly financially responsible thing to do, just to purchase it like that, but we CAN afford it. Easily. And, what made me get it is the realization that I don’t have the ability right now to play music like that. I haven’t since I sold my turntables and my CDJs 8 years ago. And I miss it. I miss being able to put on my headphones and just play for a while. With this controller, even if I don’t use it super consistently, I’ll always have the ability to take it out and just play for a while. And that is worth it to me. I can be a DJ again whenever I want.

So. We bought it. And I do mean “we.” Liz is interested in playing, too, and I think she might really enjoy it. Beat matching is so much easier now than it used to be, and we’re going to try this Beatport streaming subscription service that integrates right with our controller so we don’t have to go and buy individual tracks. We’re already brainstorming about how we could stream sessions.

I love the idea of live streaming DJ sets. That wasn’t really possible back when I was DJing last. You could, but there wasn’t a viewing/listening culture for it like there is now with Facebook Live or IGTV or even YouTube. And it’s so popular right now because no one can actually go OUT.

I’m excited. It’s something I can do from my office or our dining room or whatever…whenever I want. I can just pick up and go.

Night night.
