It’s kind of crazy to thing that time runs on a spectrum of order to chaos.

I watched a documentary on Stephen Hawking where he talked about that; essentially, our definition of the flow of time is that. Order to chaos. We never see the coffee cup fly up from the ground back onto the counter and un-break itself. We don’t see stars un-collapse and reform themselves, or black holes become white hot with all the light they’re spewing out.

Black holes consume light.

Stars collapse.

Coffee cups fall and break.

Apparently, that’s the definition of “entropy,” and entropy is the flow of time. It’s a fascinating topic. Hawking once thought that once the expansion of the universe had inevitably reached as far as it could, and the scales would tip over into the favor of black holes—and the universe would start to contract—that, perhaps, entropy would be reversed. Time would start to flow in the opposite direction. But, as it turned out, the math doesn’t support that. Time doesn’t flow backwards in black holes. Entropy doesn’t reverse.

If it DID…that’s the premise of Christopher Nolan’s latest film Tenet. Fun stuff. Except…except the film hasn’t been very good so far. Not at all. We’ve watched about the first half of it, Liz and I, and it’s clunky to say the least. No character development. SO much exposition. Which, to be fair, so was Inception, but 1) that film did a LOVELY job with character development, so we cared about the people, and 2) the stakes, the danger, the JOB was really super clear. None of that is true with Tenet.

So far.

We’ll see how it goes. But, by the rule of “an act 3 problem is an act 1 problem” axiom…if our act 1 is a mess, our act 3 will almost certainly also be a mess. We. Shall. See.

I had a…so so productive day today. Woke up SUPER early to let my mom out of the garage. Like, 4:30am early. And it took me a little while longer than I’d have liked to fall back asleep, so I was a little sleep-deprived all day. But, I made the best of it. It didn’t really hold me back, to be honest. I was fine. I’m still recovering from last week’s stress over Coco. Have to allow myself that. Then, back into the groove and off to the races.

I think that’s all I have for you tonight, y’all. I love entries like this, where there’s something on my mind that’s interesting, like the flow of time. Love that shit.

Night night.
