Ding Dong the book is done, the book is done, the book is done! Ding Dong the fricken book is doooonneee.
The first draft, anyway. Send off to my co-writer for his tweaks. And then…and then some rewrites. We’ll see how in-depth my cowriter would like to go with those. I’m down for as much as he wants, or as little.
I am zonked. Totally spent. Hoping that I didn’t rush the last few chapters tooo bad. I don’t think I did. We’ll see when I re-read the manuscript.
It’s a monumental day, though, kids. It’s the first time I’ve written a first draft of a book that I LIKE. It’s good. I did the job. It works on a fundamental level that it even CAN be rewritten. The pieces are all there. The big ones, anyway. The rewrites are about much smaller tweaks. Small tweaks that add up to a lot, sure…but I know what I have. I know where it’s going. There’s a confidence in this first draft I haven’t felt since I finished Starstuff.
It’s a relief. And momentous.
I’m very, very proud of myself and very, very happy.
Night night.
Huge congrats, Ira!
