I love picking artwork for each of these blog entries each night. I find most of it on Tumblr.
It inspires me. Just like music, it makes me imagine far away places, adventure, drama, excitement. It really, really drives me to write.
I’m not always the best at crediting the artists. I really need to be more consistent with that. Tonight’s artwork is by Roger Dean, an artist from the 70s who I use images from a lot. It’s called “Floating Rocks.”
Some day I want to buy art like this. And, I mean one-of-a-kind, the-artist-touched-this-canvas kind of art. Fine art, I believe is the term. It’s expensive as fuck. A one-time payment to the artist for the piece, because it’s the only copy. That’s incredible to me. There is no parallel in books, or music. Not really. Maybe in Film, when you’re talking about props and such. There is in Theater, which is one reason why it’s so expensive to go. Each performance only happens once. The rarity of it all makes it special.
Anyway. I found an artist who I’ve seen his stuff on the Tumblr feeds before, and assumed he was one of the greats of the 60s/70s/80s from both the style of his art, but also the quality of it. It fits right in with the artist of that time. Nope. He’s an artist living out in the UK right now, doing his thing as a freelancer. I sent him an email letting him know I thought his stuff was incredible. I want to use him for a book cover some day. Soon.
I’m so happy to have finished my book this week. It already feels like ages ago. But it was only Tuesday.
Crazy.
Night night.
