Still struggling to find my rhythm, BUT…I’m getting there. In fits and starts.
Next week, I’m adding the second writing session. That should help immensely. I need to get this outline cooking. I *am* making progress on it. It is starting to come together. But, I need to actually fill it out in my head. What are we doing from moment to moment? What’s the adventure? What’s the drama? What’s the adversity we have to push through?
Something I learned from the last book: can’t craft the emotional moments too hard. They need a soft touch. They have to be found in the moment, in the writing chair, inside the scene. The way I find it, however, IS by setting up the drama, setting up the tough choices and decisions. Then, once that work is done and the characters have their backs against the wall, THEN I can lean on the moment for how they’re actually going to feel.
I have to say, just to take a step back and reflect…it is so freaking satisfying to have worked on my process and craft enough times to know something like that. It has been a marathon to get just to this point, and I am so grateful. So very grateful.
Night night.
