We watched The Ring tonight. It’s funny, I didn’t realize that movie was PG-13. And it plays like it; no real gore or violence. But, the crazy thing is: it’s still scary as fuck. Or, at least it was back in the day. It’s lost its punch, no question, because it was so successful, it’s now become a cliche. But man…at the time? It was the scariest movie I’d ever actually gone to see in the theater. That movie was my gateway into watching legitimately scary movies. I didn’t know I actually liked them until watching the movie.

It’s tame, now, on the scares, but it’s still fun. It’s a mystery, which I really appreciated. That’s the adventure of the movie: solving the mystery before the deadline where she’s going to die. And the ending, the takeaway at the end, is pretty chilling. She must pass it on, keep the evil chain letter going. That’s the only way to save her son. And she does it.

Still a fun movie, even if it doesn’t hit as hard as you’d expect of a film these days.

And it makes us want to watch Smile. THAT movie looks goddamn terrifying.

Night night.
