Joy let me brush her tonight. Like, really brush her. And I realized she did because I had my intention right. My energy was in exactly the right place: calm and firm. She didn’t get to say no, but I wasn’t rough with her in any way, or amped up, or stern. Just…firm. And gentle. And she tried to say no, for sure, but she gave up very quickly when she realized it wasn’t scary, it didn’t hurt, and I wasn’t going to let her get away. She gave up fighting and just decided to lick my face, which I gave her snuggles for in return. Still lots of knots in there I want to get out before she gets groomed on Friday, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that they were coming out pretty easy. She hasn’t been chewing on herself or licking or anything like that to really bind the knots up tight, so they’re actually pretty loose. I think I can have her all done tomorrow.

Yes, dog talk. It’s just because they’re so close to me at night when I sit down to write these entries.

I did a DJ set tonight, and Coopey was just kinda hanging around me. I realized that he wanted to lay down close to me because he knew just from habit that I was going to be there for a while…but he didn’t want to lay down in Joy’s bed. He wanted his own bed. So I went and got it for him and sure enough, he immediately laid down in it and fell asleep. Sweet boy. I love figuring out what the pups want like that. Makes me feel smart. Intuitive. And caring.

Work has been buuusssyyyy this week. But, the end is in sight. Should be able to push this last messy project across the finish line tomorrow, and then the rest of them are supposed to be a bit easier. We’ll see. If I need help, there are extra hands available next week.

Started watching Rome, the HBO series. It’s so old now! Almost twenty years ago. Wild. I remember it being touted as one of the most expensive TV shows ever made at the time when it came out, and now…man, we’ve really raised the bar in terms of how expensive and expansive TV can look. It’s almost cheap by today’s standards. Not really. That’s not quite right: you can tell they spent a lot of money on it. What it looks like now is dated. But, it’s interesting stuff. Not particularly well-written in parts, but really well done in others. A weird mix in that way. It has tone issues, I’d say. Some of it is so trashy, and then suddenly there are some scenes or characters who are like real people.

I have a story idea that’s Roman-adjacent, so I figured it would be a decent place to start. Like my man Josh says: HBO makes hits, man. They. Make. Hits.

Night night.
