The HBO Rome series is good. I’m enjoying it. I will say this…even though that’s true, man—my takeaway whenever I watch a show like that, even Game of Thrones, is…thank god I don’t live in that world. It’s a fucking stress case. People dying left and right. Oppression as far as the eye can see, and the psychopaths are always in charge.
I get it. The real world is like that, too. I’m very privileged. Depicting a world like that is always a mirror for our true reality, the one we’d rather not see. I know this. All I’m saying is…it’s a nightmare. I don’t see the appeal of living in ancient Rome, and that’s just the honest truth. I’d be one of the poor ones, who gets stabbed in a barroom brawl that had nothing to do with me, and dies without anyone giving me a second thought. That callousness, that disregard for life is one of those things that really unnerves me. And I don’t understand how people watch these shows and get all wistful like… “man…things were better back then. MFer, no they weren’t. At least not this imagining of them. This shit is a nightmare. Wanna go back to ancient Rome. MFers crazy.
I worked all day today. Sigh. Long week. But, the work is getting done, and that’s a relief. Feels good.
Now…sleep. Night night.
