It is not the time of year for lemonade AND YET…it is because lemon trees are giving up their fruit this time of year down here in LA.

We don’t have a lemon tree, but our neighbor does, and he dropped by a MASSIVE bag of lemons at our house over the weekend, so it’s been sitting in our fridge. Well, today I decided to actually use them for something. They seem to be really good lemons! So, I thought: why not lemonade. Looked up a recipe, juiced the lemons, muddled some rinds and flesh with the sugar, added in a bunch of water and the juice, whisked it all up…and set it in the fridge to chill.

The verdict? Delicious!

It’s definitely waaaaay more flavorful than lemonade you can buy. WAY more flavors in there from the muddled rinds. And the actual fruit itself, I think, since these were homegrown and sun-ripened. There’s a lot of floral flavor, and an earthiness, like green leaves and tree sap. It’s delicious. And easy. So glad I tried it. Liz liked it, too.

A zero day today for writing, but, man. I was, quite simply, exhausted. Slept in an extra hour which gave me ten hours of sleep. And was still exhausted enough in the afternoon to sleep for another hour and a half. So, yeah. It’s because I’m doing all the things. I just need to listen to my body, rest as I can, and when I feel like pushing it, go for it.

Tomorrow, however, there’s no other option: it’s an early morning. Has to be. Gotta end this week on a high note.

Night night.
