What have I been working on?

That, my friends, has been the subject of almost every single blog I’ve ever written. Ha! But yes: what am I working on?

Right now: I’m working on my fifth Glory Series novel, the awkward middle step between my rough outline and the detailed, scene-by-scene outline. There are lots of gaps in between the two, lots of important stuff to fill in, and so I sit in my writing chair each day and try not to get distracted while I stare into the abyss of not knowing what in the hell is going on yet.

It’s the hardest part of the process for me, personally, as a writer. Lots of anxiety over not knowing the answers. Just today, in fact, I was thinking about maybe making myself worksheets that I could use to give the process of finding answers in a more quantifiable, structured way. Or, at least more bite-sized. I might try it. In fact, no ‘might’—I will. As it is, it’s terrifyingly open-ended, this part of the process. I lose months at a time to it.

I was also working on setting up the signup form for our brand new Glory mailing list, which will include a novella for signing up. My cowriter is actually also working on one, though I’m not sure yet if he plans to sell it, or if it will be given away as well. We’ll see. It’s his story. He can do what he wants with it 🙂 Setting up the signup form, however, oof. It’s been a struggle. Taken me all week, and it’s still not done to my satisfaction. We’ll see. I think I’m close. If you want to sign up to get the novella when it’s done—which, fair warning, won’t be for several months—iraheinichen.com/glory is the place to reserve your copy.

That’s what I’m “working on” outside of the normal stuff.

We’re up in Visalia tonight. Pups are with us. It’s already 11:30 so I’m not going to make this entry much longer, but…

We listened to Enigma and Moby on the drive up and remembered what it was like to be falling in love twenty years ago.

We got In N Out at the grapevine and the extra crispy fries turned out to also be extra salty.

It was windy today, and cold to start, but by evening time it was lovely. A light breeze, and cool without being cold. Suddenly, it feels like winter is upon us, just like that.

Writing was a struggle today, but I persist. Next week, genuinely, shit just has to get decided and I go for it. It’s that time. This detailed outline needs to be underway already. I can do it.

The kitties are all great. Bruce showed up for dinner and was suddenly a gray cat instead of all black because he was so dusty. Made me wonder where he was sleeping during the day, he caught so much of it.

Night night.
