What is the most expensive purchase I’ve ever made that was not my car or my home?

Does the roof we bought last year count? lol. I don’t think so. I think this question means item. And…I think that’s actually pretty easy: my spec’d out Macbook Pro back in 2020. It was just over $4,000, offset a bit by the fact that I got $2K for my “old” macbook pro that was only two years old at that point, or something like that. But, still — that computer was not cheap.

A close second would be the TV we bought two years ago. That was $3K all-in. No regrets. Zero. Liz and I watch a loooooot of TV and movies. And that TV is spectacular. We literally comment all the time, randomly, about how nice it is that it’s such a beautiful tv that we never have to worry about because it’s so well-made. We’ll have that TV for probably 10+ years. Looking forward to every second of it.

I’m definitely the type of person now to not try and go cheap on something that I really want and/or am going to be using a lot. I would rather pay the extra money (if I have it, of course) for the real deal. Not the knock-off, or the less-than, the best possible version of that thing. I’d rather pay the premium for something that is exactly what I want than something that’s close but not quite, and I’ll pay for reliability and quality. If I’m going to use it, I want it to work. That’s worth the money. So, yeah. There’s a few things I’ve splurged on, for sure, but those two are the things that come to mind. Oh! And our bed. Liz and I got ourselves a baaallleeerrr bed set back in 2019. Love it. Worth every goddamn penny.

I’ve started a new routine on Saturday mornings of getting up relatively early—8am, nothing crazy, but that is early for a Saturday—watching Wrexham, and doing the laundry. I love it! I eat breakfast, wash, dry and fold the clothes, and watch the football game. Then, I walk the pups, and it’s, like, 10am at that point and I’ve already done some stuff! Love it. Did that this morning. The boys in red won! One-nil. We’ve had a hard time scoring lately. Hopefully that picks up. There was a time just a couple weeks ago where we were scoring a lot. But a win is a win, and it was against someone right next to us in the standings, so that’s a big one.

Then Wolfie came over! I can still hear his excited voice ringing in my ears, actually. We did what we always do when we hang out together: we played video games. He brought over his own Switch, and he was playing Smash Bros. But then he turned that off and played on our Switch, the game he’s been playing every time he’s come over: A Short Hike. He’s almost done 100% of the game! I think he might be a completionist like me, and I love that. We share that. No wonder we get along.

Twas a nap after that, because hanging out with kids is always exhausting. Then I took a shower, took care of the pups, and then suddenly it was time to get ready for dinner with Stephen and Thida. We went to a place called Moon Kitchen (I think?). Delish. Had some Carvel ice cream afterwards because there was a shop across the street. Yes! A literal Carvel-specific ice cream storefront. Never seen that before. The soft-serve there was insanely good. Best soft serve we’ve had in a very, very long time. Super creamy. Very flavorful.

Then home. Did the dishes. Took care of Coopey’s eye drops and nighttime treats. Flossed. Brushed. Now…in bed and ready for the sleeps.

A good day.
