The fires continue in LA. The Palisades fire has crawled up through the hills and is encroaching, now, onto the valley pretty close to where I live. Far enough away, fortunately, that the evacuation posts they’re setting up are only a few blocks away from our house, so I think that bodes well, but still…this whole shebang is far from over.

It’s definitely the worst fires LA has ever seen so long as I’ve lived here. Truly catastrophic stuff. I’m optimistic our house will be fine. We’re hosting friends, actually, who had to evacuate their home—Liz and I are out of town (a family trip planned a LONG time ago, and the timing was perfect just to have them stay with us. It’s surreal, though, for this all to be happening and for us not to be there.

I hope it all gets handled quickly, for everyone involved. And I’m sure it will be, as quickly as is humanly possible. My forever thanks to the firefighters, first responders, to EVERYONE out there trying to help. This is how we survive these events: through the dedication and kindness of others.

Night night.
