Making this another quick one because we get up early again tomorrow BUT…

Woke up early and caught our boat tour out to the Napali coast…which was SPECTACULAR. We saw whales jumping and slapping their tails, we saw bottlenose dolphins who are apparently dicks, we saw spinning dolphins which are apparently sweethearts—they have babies with them who were doing flips and shit out of the water, it was so great—and lots of incredible, remote beach cliffs, but the coolest part of the tour had to be when our boat captain talked about the Hawaiian village that used to have a population in the thousand or so on this coast and how they were forced to relocate when the Hawaiian queen signed over the island to the US under threat of a massacre…and that his grandfather was the last Hawaiian born in that village. They then blew a conch shell to tell their ancestors that they were, in fact, still alive and well. It was…awesome. We have so much blood on our hands, this culture we live in. So much to answer for. So many things to put right.

Our boat tour was locally owned and operated. Good on Liz for finding it. It was so worth it.

Came home, had a nap, got gas, went and saw the sunset on Poipu, had dinner, went back to the beach to see the sea turtles who’d come up for their nightly snooze, and now…sleep.

Back at it tomorrow! Night night.
