What is a question I hate to be asked? Explain.
“Are you free right now?” or any other of the many permutations of that question.
Why? Because it gives no context. What I am “free” for at any given time is a very limited list. Tell me why first. My immediate reaction to any type of ask for my time or attention that doesn’t include any specifics is to ask back “Why? What’s up?” rather than answer. Or, I guess there are two other option I use: “No, I’m not free” or I just don’t answer. Just thinking about that question makes my skin crawl. Be specific. Be forthright. Give context. Give details. Don’t hold back trying to get a yes first, it never fails to make me think you’re afraid I’m going to say no. I’ll just say no, lol.
Anyone else struggle with that kind of question? Is it just me?

It is COLD tonight in LA. I think it’s going to get down to about 40º tonight, which—yes, I know that’s not anywhere close to cold cold—but it is very cold for LA. And it rained. Decent winter storm we’re getting here.
Work was busy busy busy today. A zero day on the writing front, sigh. But I’m back at it tomorrow. For reals. Didn’t sleep great last night, but I can feel it tonight. It’s going to be a good night’s sleep. And I’m going to bed on time. That helps. Bed time was a little late last night.
Snacks spent like half the day in my office. He’s finally mustered up the courage to sleep in the fuzzy dog bed, which I know he’s been interested in for weeks now. He loves it. He passes out in there. He even let me walk over and pet him without getting up, which I don’t think he’s ever done before. Sweet boy. He’s really just becoming a domestic cat now. Really trusting me like one of his own. I think I’m becoming family to him.
Pups are great. Joy snuggled up on me while we watched TV tonight. Stayed curled up in my arms with her head in the crook of my elbow just like Coco used to sleep on me. Joy uses Coco’s old raincoat and she likes to tromp through the tall grass just like her…so walking with her in the twilight the last couple nights, she’s looked just like Coco. She doesn’t walk quite the same way, but it’s a double-take for sure. Miss her. Miss you Coco.
Man. I am looking forward to sleep. That’s what I was just sitting here in bed for a moment pondering. That, and the Warriors are good again. I got to see most of the game tonight. We started out so poorly against the Nets, who are not a good team, but they are young and pretty big, so they really got physical with us. Took us a minute to adjust. A quarter, really. And then it was off to the races. We ended winning the game pretty easily, actually. A little bit of a scare at the very end, but definitely closed them out with authority. It’s so nice. We’re good again. One more ring. That’s all I want. Five. Let’s do it.
Night night.
