So…I have an apple pencil. I bought it with this iPad Pro, but I hardly ever have any use for it. I use it to fill out worksheets when I was doing that for my writing, I used it very briefly to color—someday I’d like to get back into that—and I’ve used it to sketch out stuff for my books. Well, I needed to do the latter today…but I haven’t done that since the pandemic, probably. Five years. I knew my pencil would be dead. No matter, right? Just charge it. WRONG.
I clicked it on, charged it overnight…and nooooooothing. I could see it connect every so often, and it would sometimes say it was charging, but it definitely was not charging. So, I looked the issue up…and apparently one needs to charge an Apple Pencil ONCE A WEEK AT LEAST. That tiny battery in there just can’t handle being dead for any amount of time, almost. I. Did. Not. Know. That. Nowhere was that clear when I bought it. Cell phones have Li Ion batteries, and I’ve charged one of those up after almost a decade of sitting there. Oh, man, I was so bummed. So pissed, too. This should have been a giant warning label on the box.
It looked grim. Most replies online simply said: you’re fucked, get a new pencil. I don’t have the cash for a new pencil, at least as a device I will hardly ever use. BUT…there were some people saying “warm it up with like a heating pad,” click it on and off a bunch of times over the day…and leave it on there for 12-24 hours. You never know. It might kickstart back into holding a charge.
IT WORKED. It’s happily fully charged now. I just used it for about a half hour, and it barely went down battery-wise, so I think, I thiiiiiink I might have gotten very lucky. Persistence pays off, man. Truly. Don’t give up, at least not quickly.
I’m sick. That’s the other news. Currently shivering my ass off in the guest room. I might be typing just fine, but I am FLATTENED by this thing. Fever. Chills. The works. Gonna be a long ass night.
To make the day even more crazy, Coops had a stroke (or a seizure) this morning. It was mild, but obviously we rushed him to the ER. We’re still trying to get to the bottom of it all, but in the end, the test result that stuck out was that his blood was too high in coagulant, ie – he may have had a blood clot. He’s on blood thinners, he’s acting totally normally now thank you baby jesus, and we now have a bunch of follow-up appointments to make to figure out what’s going on. My bub. It’s scary. Super stressful. Crazy day. And to think: to start the day, I really thought I was going to finish my outline.
Sigh.
Wish my luck recovering tomorrow. Hopefully this thing burns through me quickly. Night night.
