Describe something I learned in High School.
That I had a place, socially. Middle school was really, really hard for me. I didn’t fit in much. I wasn’t bullied, really, I’ve always been able to stand up for myself for the most part. It happened here and there, but not too bad. But High School was where I realized that I could make friends across a wide spectrum of social groups, and that I had my own niche to fit into that was comfortable and genuinely me. It was a nerdy group, certainly, but we were ambitious, funny, we did fun stuff like ran a DJ company and did plays, and people liked us. People liked me. Girls, even, liked me, which was a relief…because I certainly liked them, lol.
I truly came into my own later, in college and even after college…but it started in High School. I did okay there.
Academically? I think the most important thing I learned learned in High School was how to write an essay. For real. Learning how to construct a “paper” meant I did well in college. That’s all college was, really. Essay after essay. Paper after paper. Make your thesis statement, then go through supporting evidence one by one, then wrap it up with a conclusion. AP English was where I learned that the most, but it started my freshman year. Eureka High had a great english department back then. I’m very grateful for that. It was a skill I really really really needed for my life ahead.

Liz is watching the Coachella livestreams. This is a tradition, now. We’ve done this for the past three years in heavy rotation. SHE’S been watching the headliners at least for like ten years longer than that. But putting it on the TV and watching all weekend we’ve done together now these past few years together.
I watched the Warriors beat the Blazers while she did that. We won. Like we needed to. Steph hurt his thumb, which worries me…we have one more game to win on Sunday, and it’s against the Clippers who we haven’t beaten yet this year. And they’re guaranteed now to finish ahead of us in the seeding, because they hold the tiebreaker. Sigh. It’s a cluster. But we’ll be in if we win. The 6 seed. All we need.
Time for bed.
