A non-starter day. Blech. Didn’t have the focus. But I will tomorrow. The full day. That’s all I have to say about that.
I started Portrait of a Lady on Fire and it is already fantastic. Moving. Doesn’t explain itself but crystal fucking clear. The *sound* is spectacular. The location is incredible. Script is sparse but precise, like a knife; cuts right to it. The leads are beautiful. The adventure is so clear and so fun—she must paint the portrait of a woman who doesn’t want to be painted (…and we’re clearly falling in love in the process; a tragic love, I’m sure, and it will break our hearts to get there…but how achingly beautiful, no?)
Yeah. So glad I put it on. I actually wanted to watch Moonlight, but I seem to have missed my window to see it on any of the streaming platforms. No matter. It will be back I’m sure.
The selections are inspired by that list, the best 100 movies of the century so far. It’s, man…it’s reviving my soul when it comes to movies. Truly. Both in the movies I had seen on that list, which was more than half of them. But also in what I’ve seen so far for the first time. Film is not dead. It’s suffering…but there is still some top notch shit out there, particularly abroad.
Can’t wait to finish it.
Night night.
