A light day of work today, which I needed, for sure. Whew! I took the day off in terms of pushing to get anything “extra” done, like writing, or any of my multitude projects. It worked so well…I actually did get something done: I put up my office shelves, finally. I’ve been meaning to do that for…well over a year. Maybe two years. Hmm, not quite that long, actually, since we moved in. Oh, wait, I was going to say we moved in 2023, but it was 2022. So, yeah. Two years, probably, because we got those shelves late 2022 and I didn’t plan on putting them up until the following year. So, damn. Two full years it took me to put them up. Sigh. But, they’re up now and I love them! Plenty of room, now, for my growing pile of books.
Pups are good. Liz is coming home a little early. Our friend isn’t doing too well at the moment, so she’s coming home to see her. Talked to my mom. She’s having very slight memory issues, but very subtly so. I hope it’s something that passes, that her brain heals itself; it is very subtle. But there. It was good to talk to her, though; she’s in good spirts. Helping out a former neighbor, in fact, with their medical care, which is very sweet of her. My mom was a very, very good nurse.
Getting up on time tomorrow. Back into the swing of things, I think. I’m going to work on the front yard. That’s the weekend project. Need to get it done. Everything I can get done on my own, anyway, which isn’t much more. At least in terms of length of list…it’s shoveling dirt, though. So, physically quite a bit left to do. Need to get started!
Work was slow enough today that I went on my lunch break to a wine store and picked up a couple bottles I’d really been wanting to get for quite some time, a bottle of Pol Roger which is the best champagne I’ve ever had by far, and then this Italian wine called Taurasi that I’ve wanted to try for a couple months but was too broke or busy to go and get it. Got em! My fridge is full of a bunch of wines I can’t wait to try. And maybe even more exciting, wines that I have tried, loved, and now make sure I keep a bottle of it at all times. The Pol Roger is the latter. I want a bottle of that shit in there at all times. There’s a step up, too—vintage Pol Roger, meaning all grapes from a particularly great year rather than a mix—it’s like twice the price, though…but that would be cool some day to try. Something extra special.
It’s satisfying to have put in the effort to learn about wine to the point, now, where I have great stuff on-hand at all times. And a list of good producers kinda rattling around in my head so that if I see something somewhere, even if I haven’t actually had it before, I can pick something good. Really satisfying. When I have wine, now, it’s almost always good. And when it’s not, it’s because I was trying something on a whim. Or, rarely, something recommended turned out to be disappointing. But that’s super rare, now.
Anyway…it was a good day. Feels good to finally have those shelves up. Night night.
