Our fine distinction tonight is “symphony” vs “concerto.”
On the face it, I would have guessed that a concerto is smaller…but that would have been wrong, and probably mistaking concerto for a “chamber orchestra,” which is indeed smaller than a “symphony orchestra.”
A concerto has a full symphonic orchestra…but with a featured soloist who stands apart, and whom the piece of music is centered around—they are the focal point rather than the entire orchestra, and the piece of music is written to let them shine. Hence, a “piano concerto.”
Pretty cool 🙂
Thumbing this entry tonight out in my office because this file I’m transferring has been stuck at 99% and “about a minute remaining” for the past five minutes. It’s close. Gotta see it through. Because then I can get it working on the next step.
Helping out some friends with their massive photo project. This is what I’ve learned: don’t let your photo library get too large before deciding to get it up into iCloud, kids. Yowzas, this has been insanely complicated. Sigh. But…getting there. Very slowly.
We’re down to “less than a minute.” Liars.
Busy day today in the sense of lots of extra things to do. It scuppered my evening writing session. But the morning sesh was pretty good. Color me surprised to be starting to get excited already to write this upcoming book. I know that’s weird to say, but it’s got boxes around it, you know, because it’s a prequel, and it’s a story we’ve had references to already. I can’t just do whatever I want, it has to fit and still be compelling. Well…compelling is starting to enter into the picture. Which is exciting. Long way to go, but already the beating heart of the story is starting to take shape. And a few twists, too, just to keep things exciting.
Done! It finished. Back in bed now. Night night.
